I was hoping some of you could help me out with a little problem we have..

Just the other day, me and the rest of the family went off island (We're from Kauai, Hawaii) for a media production class excursion that my little sister had for the 3 days that we were there. We went there with her but she stayed with her tour group while we went on our own.

One evening we decided to eat out at a nice Japanese restaurant called "Tanaka of Tokyo". It was nice little experience especially having the chef cooking in flames and fancy tricks in front of us. While we were there, we met this very pleasant Japanese family, a man and his two daughters. We got a long well and we started talking about the japanese language (my brother and I started started a study of it) and about visiting Japan one day and the culture and so on. We were enjoying the talk so well that we sat there for quite a while even after we devoured the food.

At the end of the conversation, we exchanged addresses and phone # so that we could somehow contact each other and keep in touch. The man wrote his daughters names (I'm not sure why he didn't write his down, but fortunately my parents are able to remember it) as well as his address, office number and his occupation title. After it was all said and done, we said our goodbyes and our "Arigato's" and went our way. I happened to give the sheet of paper with their contact info on it to my brother.

Now as we were walking down Waikiki, I asked bro where he had put the paper. As you might guess, he did not have it with him! I checked my own pockets if I had it. Nothing there. I asked my parents but to no avail. This really concerned us in a way that you just won't understand. Now, you might just say that this is just a family you met in a restaurant, big deal. But it really isn't just that. I don't know about you, but it is one of those moments where you meet a group of people who just touch your heart in some way. They were such pleasant people.

What I wanted to ask you all was if you could suggest any way that I could contact them with the little information we have? As far as we know it, all we have in our memory banks are there names, the father's occupation and we know they live somewhere in "Chiba", Japan. These people were very kind and dear to us and we'd like them to know that we are thinking of them.

Thanks JS Forum members.

You could check the international "white pages" online. Chances of finding him that way are slim, but it is possible. You could also try to google the name of the place where he works so you could find the address and send a letter to his place of employment. Niether of these ideas are too good, but if you get lucky it might work.

Since he has your contact info, hopefully they will contact you and then you will have his info again. :)

Maybe they're regulars at that restaurant -- Go back and see if anyone there knows the people, and then leave them a note saying you're sorry but lost the number.

Or, wait for them to call you.

Find some japanese board with some english speaking members and post there is a start. You could also look up chiba japan and try and plug is name in, or something...basically if you can contact a local and they are willing to spend the time, it would be of great help.

Just did a quick search for "Chiba Japan population". It had 932000 people as of 2002. It doesn't look like it's going to be that easy. Think about things you discussed- perhaps it will indicate good places to search. Best of luck!

Stecman - I think it was their first time to that restaurant if they've visited the islands more than once and I doubt anyone would know them. But we'll definitely wait until they call or write us. That's what we're hoping they will take time to do.

Skoorb - I'll try that, thanks!

Mahdimael - I know. My brother asked some board members about Japan and they gave a similiar response about it. I know it might seem crazy, but we're gonna try our best to contact these people know matter what.

Sounds like a real bummer. I think your best bet would've been trying to go back and locate that paper.

Good luck!

Mason - We had the restaurant check if it was laying around anywhere. They couldn't find it though. I'm thinking of trying to contact someone who lives in Chiba. They might know a little bit about the Dentist if I offer them the man's name.

Hire a skywriter to write a note to them in the atmosphere over Chiba. ;)
