To answer my own question... :D
After doing a bit of off-JSF searching, it appears you take the BCAA pre-workout. Take it before fasted cardio along with a protein shake (Works well for me, and for others it seems) to prevent fatigue. Take it pre-workout for weights to hopefully extend your endurance, but most of the research is inconclusive it seems.

I prefer them to whey protein myself, i take it in the morning first thing, its a better kickstart than coffee!
Also pre and post workout.

taking it during a workout would be much more beneficial than pre

BCAAs are expensive

here is a list of most important to least important time to take them, take as many as you can afford

during a workout/cardio
post workout/cardio
pre workout/cardio
any other randtom time you can take them

id say scivation xtend or xtreme formulations ICE are the best out there

On a semi-full stomach, since I eat about 45 min prior to a workout, how quickly could you expect absorbtion during a workout? It seems to me that it would be slowed by having to wait to be digested. Wouldn't taking it before a workout, say 10-15 min prior allow it to be breaking down and getting digested about midway through or at the beginning of your workout?

Very true, and those are two great products. Bulk nutrition also makes a great bulk blend of BCAAs and citruline malate, which go together well and are the main ingredients of xtend. It's very inexpensive, too. BNs bulk products are very good, I've ordered them before (but not this blend specifically).

Slush, I was looking at this exact bulk supplement. Do you just dilute in water? If so, how does it taste? Also, how much? I believe 1/4 tsp has 200mg Leucine, 100mg Isoleucine and 100 mg Valine. I'd think about 1 tsp (4 servings) would be good to take during a workout.

Honestly, I don't know anything about it, other than the ingredients listed. I'd expect that you just take some measurement of it and dilute it in water. It's bulk, so I wouldn't expect it to taste good. If you want taste, you're going to have to go with the Scivation product or something like it.

At the moment because I already have it on hand...Beverly's Glutamine Select (http://www.dpsnutrition.net/product_information.asp?number=BV032&back=yes&dept=1425&last=1425). If I were to be looking for a BCAA, I'd probably go with the Xtend. I haven't gotten into a BCAA regimen myself, (if there is such a thing) but my understanding is that you may be looking to take upto 20% of your bodyweight. So I'm at about 197lbs right now so 20% is 39.4, which would translate to about 40g's of BCAA's per day. (others, please feel free to step n and correct me if I'm wrong on this) So...using Xtend's numbers that figures to be about 11-12 scoops per day...there's 90 servings or 180 scoops per container, divided conservatively at 10 scoops per day, means you'll get a wopping 18 day run for your $46.00 investment (http://www.dpsnutrition.net/product_information.asp?number=PE014&back=yes&dept=1168&last=1168). So $90 per month, just for BCAA's
Of course those numbers would be if you're a competive natural bodybuilder looking to maximise your gains.

Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on Universal's BCAA's? (powder in grape or orange)? I like it, but I really haven't compared or shopped BCAA's around much--went with Universal's on a trusted recommendation. TIA.
