I bought two huge bags of raw walnuts and almonds at Whole Foods, thinking I was being clever and buying in bulk. This was at the beginning of January. For the past week, I had been getting awful cramps in my abdomen that felt like gas that couldn't be released and trouble going number 2. It always happened about 2-3 hours after my usual afternoon snack of said nuts and beef jerky. I decided to cut out that snack and I seem to be better now. Could it be that the nuts simply went bad after having them for a while?

Have there been any other changes in your life, like have you been on your feet more often?

Almost everything can go bad at some point. Nuts are supposed to keep better in the fridge, so you did the right thing there. If the nuts were rancid, believe me when I say you'd definitely taste it.
If they did indeed taste funky, then you should enquire as to how long the store where you bought them had kept them before they got into your hands.
I also wonder if it was the beef jerky that caused this, but I have no idea what effect that could have.
