Anyone go to Ohio University or live in the Athens area?

I'm going to attend grad school there and I've never even been there.

Hey Andrew,

How funny--I'm going to IUB! (we posted for a while about grad schools). Both of my sisters went to Ohio U and LOVED it. I've visited and it's a beautiful campus, nice place to go to school. There's lots of outdoorsy things to do there. It's in some hills, I think the Hocking hills.

It's a fun school (ok, party school, but what school isn't?). Halloween is big there. People make really elaborate costumes so it's fun to watch. Also, watch for news stories about them this weekend. There's usually a nasty scene there when they try to shut the bars down at the real 2am (with spring ahead, it seems like an hour early).

Congrats! I think you'll like grad school & OU.

I'm jealous. I would happily live out the rest of my LIFE in Bloomington. What an incredible community! I'm certainly not disappointed about going to OU, but I don't like the idea of moving away from Indiana :(

My cousin is a freshman undergrad at OU and she likes it quite a bit. I'm sure you'll enjoy it there, I've visited down there and the town seems to be pretty nice as others have mentioned.

Good luck in grad school!

Athens is a true college town - its all about OU and nothing else. The police try to keep things under control but the students run the madhouse. You should have a lot of fun. Everyone that says the campus looks fantastic is correct. If you go to any away games, check out Miami of OH's campus. It's really nice as well.

If you want to impress the locals and talk b-ball, tell everyone that you're a big fan of Gary Trent (aka the Shaq of the MAC). He carried OU into the NCAAs pretty far one year and got them a lot of attention. Of course, this was like 9 years ago but you can say that you've been a fan for a long time. Oh yeah - you should hate Randy Moss and anything Marshall.

I currently attend two of their regional campuses (OU Eastern and Zanesville). OU uses a quarter structure instead of semesters. Athens has always been known as a party campus, heavy boozing. Being a graduate student you probably won't have time for alot of that! lol I can tell you that OU is relatively cheap. Full-time hours = $1500/quarter in tuition. There is alot of scholarship money to be had for full-timers. I highly recommend using the student book exchange on their website or Amazon.com, as the college bookstore is a rip-off as always.

Out of state tuition is about $17,000 a year! I'm an alternate for an assistantship that will pay all my tuition and fees and give me 10k per year...if I got that I'd be set!

Hobbes: Hate Randy Moss? Check. Marshall? Is that where Vick played?

Coming from the Big Ten (and from Indiana no less) I just hope the hoops are competitive! OU did awesome against Florida in the tournament...but I want a National Championship!!! I was one game away!!! I just hope OU is ranked sometime while I'm there...

What made you choose OU?

Moss played at Marshall. In sports, meanining Football, Marshall is King of the MAC if you're talking about bowl games. I doubt OU ever gets ranked nationally but you can always drive an hour and partake of OSU's program.

Who knows? Living in central OH you may forget all about those IN roots and become a Buckeye ;)
