Hey

I am trying to calculate my calorie intake but I cant find the amount of calories on the nutritional info on the bread and tuna that i eat. Here is the nutritional info for both, maybe someone can estimate how many calories there are, because i have absolutely no idea. thanks

Noble Rise Wholemeal Bread
Serving size - 83.5g (2 slices)
energy: 813kJ
protein: 8.6g
fat, total: 2.3g
saturated fat: 0.4g
carbohydrate: 31.8g
sugars: 1.8g
dietary fibre: 4.9g
sodium: 313mg

Tuna Chunks in Brine
Serving size - 64g
energy: 261kj (62Cal) (does that mean 62 calories??? because it seems kind of small)
protein: 13.9g
fat, total: less than 1g
saturated fat: less than 1g
carbohydrate: less than 1g
sugars:less than 1g
sodium: 321mg

62 calories means 62 calories. But there could very well be 2.5 servings of tuna in the can. There is in mine. check the label. For your info, 1g of carbs and protein has 4 calories, and one gram of fat has 9 calories. So for any food you know the macrontrient breakdown, you can figure out the caloires. I'll do it for you this time bread (protein + 8.6 * 4) =34.4 + 31.8 * 4 (carbs) =127.2 + 31.6 + 20.9 (fat- 9 * 2.3) + 147.9 cal. So the bread is about 148 calories.

kJ stands for (kilo)Joules - another measure of energy, commonly used on European food. One calorie is equal to about 4.18 Joules. To convert from Joules to calories, divide by 4.18 (which puts the bread at 194 calories).

(jsbrook, while I think your method was correct, I think you made a slight calculation error - I got 182). I don't know where the other 12 calories come from...

Just another method to count calories, for the bread that is;
1 gram of carb = 4 kcal
1 gram of protein = 4 kcal
1 gram of fat = 9 kcal

So we just simply calculate:
31.8 x 4 = 127.2 kcal (from carb)
8.6 x 4 = 34.4 kcal (from protein)
2.3 x 9 = 20.7 kcal (from fat)
------------------
182.3 calories.

*yeah, I got 182 too ;)

62 kcal per serving, that is... But if it's canned, usually it contains 2 serving in one can... so 62 x 2, so in a can there are 124 kcal (that's only a rough estimate!) check your can :d_smile:
