I'm heading to the grocery store in two hours, and I'd like to get a new salad dressing. I absolutely love ranch, but I know that it's not good for me, has tons of fat, and is a bad choice for my new cutting routine. I'd like to hear some healthier options for what you all put on your salads.

I just use a squirt of lime juice, that's all my salad needs.

A vinaigrette. I like the taste, and it helps me get healthy fats and meet my totals. Fat is also filling. Buy one or make your own with vinegar, olive oil, and whatever spices you like.

Paul Newman's brands are very, very good - especially his Balsamic Vinegrette. :claplow:

Cool, I'll have to check out that Newman's balsamic vinegrette. I've had something similar before and it was pretty decent. It's just a matter of getting used to the healthier foods, just like I've already done in other areas. RIP delicious ranch...

What about honey mustard, italian, anything else?

Chang, that is pretty hardcore using only lime juice. That doesn't sound very good to me at all! ;)

Kraft Fat Free Zesty Italian

15 calories per serving

It's some of the lowest I have found and I love the taste.

I agree, lime juice is great - but usually I go for lemon juice as, for me, it just brings out the taste in the particular kinds of salad I eat.

By the way, I had lime juice on my chicken breast the other day, and that was quite nice.

Try Balsamic Vinegar...not the dressing but just the vinegar...taste great...no calories...fat...only a carb or two...taste just the same...perhaps even better than the dressing...

Also try adding whole or sliced pepperocini peppers...they give it a great flavor along w/ the vinegar...

I'm a fan of the fat free french dressings. It tastes good, and it coats the salad well with only a little bit.

It's low in fat because they put more sugar in it, that's what I was using until I read the ingredients a while back, I don't mind a little sugar and if you don't mind it stick with it, I personally dislike the taste anyway. I usually have a tbsp of olive oil and sprinkle half a tbsp of parm cheese in it. I'm going to give the vinegarette a try.

Yup, It does have sugar but the way I look at it is, 15 calories is only 15 calories (well duh :D ) I probably burn more than that making the salad. I'm not a big fan of the taste of olive oil so I'd much rather get my good fats from Peanut Butter. But once in a while I do throw some chopped almonds on top.

but this is all just preference and you really can't go wrong either way.

Hmmm...they do make low fat ranch dressing, but I'm not sure how much sugar is in it. It's 90 calories per serving though. I go easy on dressing in general though. I really don't like vinagrette dressing on salad and sometimes I just eat my salad plain.

I mix lemon juice, flaxseed oil and apple cider vinager... it makes a really tangy and healthy salad dressing.. it really gives your salad a kick ;)

I've really been grooving on this chicken salad I've been making lately. It's just green leaf lettuce (or spinach), broccoli crowns, sliced almonds, and chunks of canned chicken breast with a natural peanut butter/olive oil mix for dressing. It's nummy!

I used to be a big blue cheese eater but now I've switched to a homemade dressing Balsamic Vinegret, garlic, and some other herbs and spices.

Low fat and it tastes great :)

I tried the Newman's balsamic vinegrette, and I must say it is awesome. Made a cucumber, tomato, and avocado salad with that dressing, it was so good I had to have it again the next night.

Might have to try a few of those other suggestions as well, some sound pretty good.

I use this too, I love it, though it can sometimes make things a little too bitter- a tiny bit of extra virgin olive oil can help even it out.

I use red wine vineger and a little olive oil. Simple and good.

Okay, don't think I am nuts - but here is what i do:

I buy my favorite dressing - usually a lite italian.....when I get home, i pour it from it's original container into a "spritzer bottle". This way I spray my lettuce - it covers more and I am using less. Buy, then again, I am embarrassed that I just revealed one of my weirdnesses. Next week I will share some other oddities. Have a great nite.

I don't eat much in the way of salad, but ingredients for flavour that I've used include balsamic vinegar, red wine vinegar, dijon mustard, grainy mustard, plain yogurt.

I use Newman's Own LITE Balsalmic Vinegarette and love it! Mcdonald's has this dressing on their menu. If I am in a hurry. I will grab a salad there and trash the croutons Yum Yum!
