View Full Version : my shedule is screwed...help please!
A_Brown March 26th, 2005, 10:17 AM Im in a bit of a bad situation for my training. Im on the track team, and this means I have to run every day after school. Depending on the day, that means a 30-60min intense cardio session, 6 days a week. I have been weight training after school all year, and have been doing Max-OT for the last 3 weeks. I know doing cardio before weights is not ideal, but the problem is, on the way home is the only chance I have to lift. Can i keep up my weight training and still see results with the running, or am I wasting my time? Is there a program that might work better than John Stone's 3-day split?
Thanks in advance

What sort of results have you produced? Are you satisfied?
You have been doing a lot of work, you could be doing too much even for a teenager. I don't know if you are lifting heavy or not, but you can overtrain. The main reason, I often suggest that people drop cardio when they are cutting or bulking is that extra activity takes away from recovery and muscle building. I feel cardio can be worked in when you are in a maintenance phase, which should be your longest overall phase in life. The other cut/bulk phases should be short.
If your weights are heavy and intense, you might want to wait till track season ends. So your focus can be there.
Hort March 26th, 2005, 01:28 PM You'll have to choose what you want more. Are you a sprinter, distance, weight man?
Kids your age are resilient. Keep up on healthy eating and you'll be fine.

Ive been lifting pretty heavy, but I havent been doing MAX-OT long enough to see big results, but I am going up pretty fast. This last week I didnt lift at all. I was just getting in to the swing of things, with the running and all. The way I thought about it though, I would only need to overlap with my running 2 days a week. If I do a 3-day split. For example:
Sun:i play tennis for 1h1/2)
Mon:Running(hard workout)
Tue:Running(short workout)chest, back
Wed:Running(hard)
Thurs:Running(short)legs, triceps
Fri:Running(hard)
Sat:shoulders, biceps
Thats my tentative plan. I dont want to stop lifting, because I will no doubt lose much progress, and I need to get bigger for football next year. I dont feel like Im overtraining, and have none of the symptoms, but Ill be looking for them. By the way, what is the big deal about not doing cardio b4 weights?
Zerone March 26th, 2005, 06:56 PM Looking good and top performance don't always mesh. If you're a sprinter, you're not going to be squating 200 lbs.

Why wouldnt you want to have strong legs if you're a sprinter?

I think sprinters today are squatting 200 or more, but I am not sure they do that during the season. If I was sprinting today, I would be hitting the NET finding out the proper exercises routines and times for my sport. :gl:
