Does anybody have a rule-of-thumb sort of way to estimate a 1-rep max based on what you can do at 6-reps?

No, but a google search can produce many like this one from I hope a familiar site. http://www.exrx.net/Calculators/OneRepMax.html Dead-head March 24th, 2005, 03:49 PM Thanks, rt. Here's a summary of that site's numbers. 10 reps = 75% 9 reps = 78% 8 reps = 80% 7 reps = 83% 6 reps = 86% 5 reps = 89% 4 reps = 92% 3 reps = 94% 2 reps = 97% rtestes March 24th, 2005, 04:05 PM Thanks, rt. What does the %s you posted mean? fatboylvr2000 March 24th, 2005, 04:28 PM I think it means if you can do x amount 10 times then that is 75% of your 1 rep max. Dead-head March 25th, 2005, 10:01 AM Exactly. It estimates my 10-rep weight as 75% of my 1-rep max. So, if I lift 150 lbs. 10 times and want to find my 1-rep max. I divide 150 by 0.75 to get 200 lbs. rtestes March 25th, 2005, 11:33 AM Exactly. It estimates my 10-rep weight as 75% of my 1-rep max. So, if I lift 150 lbs. 10 times and want to find my 1-rep max. (just starting out) what would my 1 rep max be? chicanerous March 27th, 2005, 09:47 PM That only goes upto 10 reps. i can squat 210lb 20 times. (just starting out) what would my 1 rep max be?The scale becomes too inaccurate above 10 reps. Just for kicks, if you extrapolate from the 1-10 rep scale and average the change in percent between each rep to be 2.75% then that gives you 20 reps as around 47% of your max. So then, your max should be about 47% of 210 or between 440 and 445 lbs. :p JSU March 27th, 2005, 10:05 PM holy shite 450lb! thats madness. i have only done them twice. wowsers. that makes me feel good :D chicanerous March 27th, 2005, 10:12 PM holy shite 450lb! thats madness. i have only done them twice. wowsers. that makes me feel good :D Heh, 210 pounds just starting is five pounds more than the most I've done in my life, so definitely be happy. Your max is probably somewhere in the mid to low 300's. Rule #1 of statistics: never give much credence to extrapolated data. The best way to find out would be to add some more weight until you are just into the 10 rep range and then use the calculator. Actually maxing out, especially if you've just started, is not such a good idea. Also, (this probably isn't applicable but) remember your bodyweight isn't included in your squat weight or other measurements in any lifts. JSU March 27th, 2005, 10:24 PM kk, lol i know bout body weight ;) . O wow iam squating 405lb 20 times! lol Dead-head March 28th, 2005, 09:45 AM You've trained your muscles for endurance at 20 squats. That doesn't accurately correlate to a 450# 1-rep max. JSU March 28th, 2005, 12:47 PM I havnt trained them for anything, that was just the wieght i tried and i could do 20 reps. rtestes March 28th, 2005, 01:21 PM I havnt trained them for anything, that was just the wieght i tried and i could do 20 reps. Anyone starting out, who does 20 reps of a "ass to grass" 210 squat is strong, now add more and see where your 10 rep or below limit may lie. "Ass to the grass" means you squat till your hamstrings touch your calves. JSU March 28th, 2005, 02:46 PM its not ass to grass. they were just above 90 degrees. i heard that going under 90 can seriously screw up your knees. |
