Hey, I just walked into the kitchen carrying a tub of ATW Whey Isolate, and my brother tells me how I shouldn't be drinking that anymore, and how the artificial sweetening in the whey shakes was bad for you. Apparantly he, along with his football team, talked to a professional trainer that was trained "thousands of professional atheletes" and how I am essentially doing everthing wrong.

Anyone know of the reliability of this? Is whey protein less than optimal for weight lifting and getting into shape? Is there something better?

no ur brother is a moron. notice he said artificial sweetener, nothing to do with the protein. and he also isnt referring to splenda, which has had no linkage to cancer or any other diseases

ignore ur bro, drink ur whey

I second that, a protein shake is essential especially when trying to reach your protein max for the day and if you dont like the sweetener which you arent getting alot of in the first place they do sell unflavored whey protein.

People will have their opinions about everything, be careful who's advice you take.

I think that if you find it hard to get protein through real food sources throughout the day, then taking Whey Protein is great. I myself find it hard to get enough protein throughout the day, so I take a few shakes every day to make sure I'm giving my body what it needs. Only protein can build muscle.

Whey protein is also best for post-workout, it's absorbed faster than any other source of protein if I'm not mistaken.

Professional Trainers aren't always right, they're subject to the same fallacies that we are all exposed to anyways. People are quick to assume that something produced in a lab is always bad. Mind you, there really needs to be research looked into before any judgement is passed. BTW, I am of the oppinion that aspartame is harmless for most people... instead of challenging it straight up, take a look at this URL (http://www.cancer.org/docroot/PED/content/PED_1_3X_Aspartame.asp?sitearea=PED) and tell me what you think. Not starting a flame war here, but simply pointing something out.

That's funny aspartame is a non-essential amino acid according to http://home.howstuffworks.com/food.htm the reason it's non-essential is because the body can build it out of other substances.

Sorry I was incorrect Aspartic Acid is a non-essential aminoacid. I've read a few things on aspartame and you don't want to be touching that stuff, apparently its very addictive, and can cause extreme reactions inside the body.
