Ive got it all screwed up in my head.

I had been taking a whey protien shake before lifting and then one right after with a large banana, but I want to add another oatmeal meal on my lifting days, what time of day would it be good to munch it down? just before I lift or right after?

Part of me says right after, the other part says 30 mins before. please clarify

Thanks guys

About 1.5-2 hours before lifting is the ideal time for complex carbs and protein. Also, 1-2 hours afters lifting is the ideal time for it again.

Right after lifting "ideally" you want simple carbs and some protein, but I've found that as long as I eat (something) after my workouts, I progress just the same. To save calories, I generally have a combination of simple/complex carbs and protein after my lifting workouts. Then I eat 3-4 hours after that.

Complex carbs as Karatetricker stated. Stay away from hi GI carbs pre-workout and fruit (fructose) around training time. I like complex carbs post workout also.

What I do is 1 cup oatmeal with water and a glass of water before workout about an hour then afterwords which is about 45 to an hour I have another cup of oatmeal with protein blend mixed in with it. Cookies n Cream oatmeal, I love it.
