As my arm approaches the bottom of the movement (90 degrees), I start to feel pain in my elbows. It feels like my lower arm is being disconnected from my upper arm. As a result, I'm limited in the amount of weight I can do on this (and similar) exercises.

Interestingly, it doesn't affect me on other tricep exercises like dips, or tricep pulldowns (rope extension).

Any help would be appreciated.

That happens to me too. I tried doing skullcrushers to add a little variety to my routine, only to discover that they hurt my elbows like crazy. I don't have that problem with any other tricep exercise. My advice would be to just not do them. There are plenty of other tricep exercises that you can do instead.

What kind of bar are you using and how wide is your grip?

I'm using an ezcurl bar. I've tried it close grip, and about shoulder-width grip. Pain is the same. Hurts with dumbbells too.

Could be a grip problem. Do you notice if your wrists are bending backwards? Try keeping them as stiff as possible so you are not putting as much stress on the tendons.

I don't think it's a grip problem, because it hurts with dumbbells too (palms facing each other). The pain is very localized (center of the elbow).

Just do dips and then your tricep rope pushdowns. Skip the skull crushers. Those two exercises should fry your arms enough.
