Flat Bench Press
Decline Bench Press
Decline Dumbell Press
Dips

I'm sure there are many more, those are just the ones that came to my head first.

I find weighted dips good for that, slightly wider grip than for triceps, and go low enough to feel the chest stretching and leaning slightly forward.
If you can do bodyweight dips ok then hang as much weight that will allow for 4 - 8 reps.
They suck but are good mass builders.

Glenn,

I have heard this before, but when I did them I was feeling all the weight on my tri's. Can you tell me how you did them to feel it in your pecs? Was it just the wider grip and going deeper, or did you dip differently (like in an arching motion)?

Yes to hit the chest you have a wider grip and lean forward more and its ok for the elbows to stick out a bit, Tricep work you dont lean forward and you keep you elbows in.
Your Tri's will still get quite hard so its usually better to pre exhaust your pecs on some flyes first.

Bear in mind there are two distinctly different types of dips... I think what you may have done were bench dips? Where your arms are on a bench behind you, and you dip your ass to the floor? Those are for triceps.

The other dips involve paralell bars, and are much more chest-intensive, especially if you lean slightly forwards while doing them. I love them, and have moved up on weight in them recently. Great exercise.

To the original question, I've been led to believe declines hit the lower chest more than other types of bench. I'll be doing a few sets tonight, actually, simply for variety's sake, and because I'd forgotten all about them until this thread. :)

Could you explain how you change the weight? Are you talking about doing these with a machine?

For bench dips, you can put your feet up on another bench, and place weights in your lap (or have someone else put them there for you).

For paralell bar (chest) dips, you use a weight belt (usually provided in the gym) to attach plates to your waist.

Until you get strong enough for a weight belt, you can just hold dumbbells with your feet. It's really easy to do and effective.

Have a spotter assist you by giving you just enough help to complete each rep, soon you'll be doing them on your own.

Get a stool or box, use it to position yourself to do the negative or down movement only, slowly. quickly return for next rep when you reach bottom.

Most gyms have a device for doing dips, either one that you load up with plates, or the other device you can do chins with aswell and it has plates and a pin so you can counter balance your weight to make it easier.
Dont make it too easy though, or your wasting your time, i think getting something to stand on and doing negative dips would be more productive until you can do full range dips. :tu:
