HI, My mom has just asked me to help her lose a couple of pounds, and yes I am happy to help her. One thing though is i calculated that she needs to take in 2008cals to maintain her current weight. So i recopmmened her to eat about 1500 cals to average 1lb loss a week. The only thing is I dont know at what level women hit starvation mode, i just wanted to make sure that i tell her how low she can go before it may begin to "hurt" her progress. Thanks

Can you post her stats for us? That is a pretty low calculation to maintain her weight.....

1200-1300 is the general consensus for women's "starvation" calorie level - but ti all depends on height, weight, bodyfat, amount of exercise...

She's 5'6, 175lbs, and shes 55 years old (if she asks I said 39) :D . And she walks on a treadmill at a moderate walking pace (2.5-3mph) for about 15 min/day.

Why don't you use Maggie's spreadsheet for this purpose of weight loss calculations : http://maggiewang.com/bfl/WeightLossCalculator_v3.xls
it's got a good general guideline.
