Hello everybody, I've been a member for about a week and a half now, and have been reading as much as I can about nutrition and supplements as well as cardio and lifting. The information so far has been incredible, and I believe I've learned a lot. I do have one question, though, regarding the use of glutamine before a cardio workout. (I tried to find the answer through a search, but was unsuccessful :o ) Here goes...

I'm doing low-intensity (65-75%) fasted cardio 45min x 4 days a week (I might bump it to 5), and was wondering whether taking glutamine peptides beforehand would help to prevent catabolism and whether it would be detrimental to the fatloss I'm currently experiencing. I'm lifting 3 days a week to preserve LBM (and hopefully to gain some strength), and I really would like to preserve absolutely as much muscle as I possibly can. Any advice and opinions are greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance!

The answers are varied on glutamine, but I would say don't even waste your money on it. The science just isn't there for the fitness world (it is, however, for medical uses *intravenously* not orally), and it is marketed like it's creatine or whey (which are backed up by scientific sports medicine research).

I don't do fasted cardio, but if I did, I would probably down a whey shake mixed with water right after I woke up, just before cardio. Some people eat a half a banana before morning cardio to replenish liver glycogen stores. Maybe do both? But as always, do what would work for you. Over time you will know if you are losing lean mass or not. There is no right formula. And besides, if you do lose some mass from the experiment, it's not like the gym is going anywhere. Hit it up harder on the next bulk.

Thanks very much for the reply, and you're right; I shouldn't worry too much about the supplements, and should instead focus on the workouts and diet. So regardless of whether I ever use glutamine, I won't worry about it!

I take glutamine everyday with creatine.
If your worried about muscle wasting then glutamine is one of the best things to take.
Our bodies use a lot of glutamine everyday to maintain the proper function of our immune system, kidneys, pancreas, gallbladder, and liver.
A lot of whey protein products have glutamine in them.
I prefer to get most of my protein and carbs from normal food sources rather than the heavily marketed supplements, which ive tried most and dont really find them necessary, except maybe after a workout.
