1FastGTX Mon, March 14th, 2005, 07:23 PM Do you want to lose weight or fat? There's a big difference. You could be gaining muscle and therefore not see the scale move (or heck it could go up) but you might still be on the right track.
Try using other forms of measurement: tape measure, the mirror, weekly pictures, how your clothes fit.
x_x_x Mon, March 14th, 2005, 07:32 PM point taken but i don't think i'm adding pounds of muscle on 1000 cals ...?
bps1999 Mon, March 14th, 2005, 07:35 PM As GTX said, the scale isn't the best tool to measure fat loss. Get one of those soft tape measurer's that tailor's use and take measurements of your waist every cuple of weeks.
Also, less than 1000 calories is pretty low. Starving yourself is only going to lower your metabolism, which means that although your calorie intake is low, you are taking a lot longer to burn them off. Eat 5-6 small meals a day.
Are you doing any cardio or hitting the weights at all? There is a ton of information on this site if you search the forum.. Also, if you post your workout regimine and diet for people to critique you may get the exact answers you are looking for.
Just keep it going though.. the fact that you have been eating clean for a month means that you have at least got the motivation and determination going for you, and for most people, that's the hardet part. Once you get the knowledge down, you'll be all set.
Hort Mon, March 14th, 2005, 07:36 PM You are eating far too little, only 1000 calories a day?
Your maintenance level with no exercise should be about 2400-2500 calories (allowing that I don't know your age).
Are you exercising at all?
With an average amount of exercise, you should probably be looking at no less than 1900-2400 calories. Given that you are a big guy- with decent exercise you might be succesful cutting at as much as 2700-3000 calories a day. At 1000 or less you'll be starving and your body won't be in the mood to give away fat. Remember- the safe rate of weight loss is 1-2lbs a week.
x_x_x Mon, March 14th, 2005, 08:00 PM thanks for the replies lads - my waist was about 40 - 42 a month and a half and is the same now.
i have been lifting weight, three full body workouts a weekand inadition two arm workouts, dabaling withthe cardio - my idea was by doing this i'd maintain a good degree of muscle mass while the substantial calorie deficient would take care of the fat ...

You've pretty much killed your metabolism with 1000 calories/day. Eat more, unless you want to end up weighing 150 lbs with a spare tire around your waist
eleonardo Mon, March 14th, 2005, 10:58 PM 6ft and 1000 cals a day??
