Cardio this AM didn’t happen, I slept right through my alarm for some reason. :d_mad: I was so pissed when I saw I didn’t have time, and had to get to work. I will have to go when I get out of work, not as effective, but better than nothing I guess.

Sounds good to me :tu: Thats the day I planed on taking my weekly pics, so I will just post here as well on Sunday.

Any one willing to share their plan? Mine is pretty basic, I am horrible at writing things down, so I can't make it that strict yet. I have plans and goals to do so.

I am currently eating 5-6 meals/ day, depending on time, and whether or not its a training day.

Meals consist of roughly 40g protein and 3 of them have a fibrous carb. Next week I am going to plan out a more strict diet that monitors calories, protein, fat, and carbs.

I am hitting cardio every morning for 45-30 min depending on the mood I am in. If its a good day, I will go after a HIIT style for 20-25 min, then fast walk/ jog for 10 min. Otherwise its a boring fast paced walk with grade on the tred for 45 min straight.

I know the 45 min fast walk will conserve muscle mass better, but at this point I think I can spare an ounce or so, I am lifting pretty hard, and everything is going up so I am not worried at this point.

Well this got long, sorry, bored at work.

Sounds like a great plan! Make sure you allow yourself the inevitable slip ups everyone has. I beat myself up over it last time and I think it contributed to me giving up.

My regimen is like yours, I think I'd go insane tracking every calorie and macronutrient. So I've just changed what I'm eating, eat MUCH smaller portions and much more frequently and I bust my ass at the gym 3 days a week. I have some simple rules I'm following that I'll elaborate on later.

I'm going to add optional stats to the page, but keep the table very simple. I'll definitely add starting and current BF% for people who have the means to measure and an area for each person to break down their diet, routine and link to pictures.

lets go! :jumping:

I wish I'd picked up some calipers instead of the expensive BIA scale I got. I expected it to be much more accurate than it is. I guess it's useful for rough measurements though from month to month and it is really quick.

So, since we're still in the first week.. I was thinking we might have some other incentives? Judging of the winner at the end by other forum members? Or will we do it by a calculation? I'd think that the differences in bf% measurements would make that impossible, since we'd have to calculate % difference in BF as well as account for lost lean mass.

I'm thinking a judging by before and after pictures by other forum members?

How bout this.. the winner receives a congratulatory post card from the other participants? :D

Welcome! That's a HUGE goal. works out to 4lbs a week. It's generally accepted that you can lose up to 2lbs a week safely without eating away at too much muscle or making yourself sick.

I had similar goals a few years ago and I kept getting frustrated when I wasn't meeting them. My goal now is 1.5lbs-2lbs a week. When you think of it as a lifelong change... what's another 3 months?

It sounds slow because we're so used to those 'Lose 30 pounds in 30 days!!' commercials, but everyone here knows that's BS. Just think.. if you lose 2 lbs a week that's 8lbs a month! It's takes a lot of effort to gain that much in a month, nevermind losing it.

well what I wanna know is this.. If you're losing more than 2+ lbs a week, you tend to lose muscle.. why muscle? arent you burning away your stored up fat?

In a nutshell, it's know through numerous studies and personal experiences (mine included) that anything over 2lbs a week and you risk triggering your bodies 'starvation mode'. The only way to lose weight is to be in a caloric deficit, 4lbs a week for almost anyone is a HUGE deficit that tells your body it needs to be as careful as possible with burning calories (i.e. , your metabolism starts slowing down). Studies have also shown that very low calorie diets have a tendency to increase muscle loss. Since muscle is metabolically costly to maintain (muscle is constantly using calories whether you're doing anything or not) a very low calorie diet sheds much more muscle because of it.

I like thinking of it in really basic terms. While you're losing your 1-2 lbs a week, you lift weights regularly. At this level, you are telling your body that while you do need to burn some stored calories to compensate, you still really need to keep the muscle so that you can keep moving heavy weights around. BUT, once you get in a diet that is low enough in calories, your body puts more importance on maintaining a metabolic state that will extend your survival. Meaning it's much more willing to give up muscle tissue.. since it costs calories to keep.

I'd suggest getting on google and in these forums and doing some research. Once you get a solid plan down you're much more likely to succeed. What had you planned for diet/exercise? I know how you feel though, I want to get rid of this tire as fast as possible too.

Good Luck!

I agree, and feel the same way... slow and steady SUX, but it works so thats all that matters. I just play mind games and it gets me by, just like this Rabbit that thinks he's going to leave me candy on Sunday. I said there better be some fruit, and protien shake in my basket or a bunny is going to pay :d_mad:

I'm on a pretty good diet and exersise program, I've done my research and all that good stuff but just the point of losing more than x amount of lbs causes muscle loss which doesnt make much sense since fat should be the first thing to go.. I know thats not the case.. but who wishes it were, I DO!

Nice!! I fell of the wagon last night and ate a bunch of crap, but I'm going soon for lifting and cardio so I'll be fine. Last I checked I was down about 2-3 pounds from start. I expect I'm going to be down a bit more than the 2lbs I want due to water loss in the first 1-2 weeks.

i got 11 pounds and 5% BF to lose in just under 5 weeks!! time to turn it up boys!!

Don't beat yourself up. Work on being better this week. If it takes me a year to get to my goal weight I'm doing it. I'm allowing myself one cheat meal a week, the big thing is to plan when this meal happens and what it is. For me it's between Friday night and Sunday night. It gives you motivation to stay strong until that time. Otherwise you just get hungry, eat a bunch of crap and say, "well.. this can be my cheat meal" Then you feel shi**y and your eating goes right down the toilet. It's a reward meal, not a mulligan.

Yeah, don't depend too much on results from week to week. Forgive yourself and get back at it! I try and weigh myself in the morning after I've had a leak, that way water isn't as much of a factor.

Yeah, just gotta keep after it, use the mistakes as motivation. Remember the feeling of regret and disappointment in yourself, use this to keep you from making the wrong decisions in the future :tu:

I made it through Easter with my planned 1 cheat meal, which wasn't much of a cheat meal. I had Prime rib, cooked veggies, eggs, sausage, and here’s the cheat, breaded chicken fingers. I also had 3 recees peanut butter cups :D I hit cardio on Sat, and nothing on Sunday, got up this am and tore cardio up, really good HIIT. Gave everything I had, watching the contender last night helped with the motivation :tu:

this morning when i woke up i was down to 169!! i havent been under the 170 mark since grade 11!! I had a really good Max-ot leg day yesterday, and im sitting at work and starting to feel the soreness kick in...

im gonna hit up cardio tonight. But i have a question...right now im doing about 40-45 min medium intensity cardio, should i switch it to like 25 min high intesnsity/HIIT cardio for better fat loss and muscle retainsion? Im doing a 3 day Max-ot split, with acrdio on the off days...so im thinking that might be a better road...

suplements also, i gotta go buy some more today...i take a multivitamin, l-glutamine powder and also a protein/whey/meal relpacment type thing...should i get something else or somethign different?? seems to be doing okay...

keep it up guys, its a 3 month challenge, just giv'r for 90 days and then take a day off :tu: then get back on it!!

np :) From what I've heard HIIT is better for muscle retention and fat burning. 15 minutes of HIIT will leave you FLYING too. I feel incredible afterwards, much better than after extended low-medium intensity cardio. Try HIIT and see if you like it, if not stick with what you're doing now. The only way I keep with my program is finding enjoyment in it some way. I usually focus on how I'll feel afterwards for cardio, and I just plain like lifting heavy weights. I'm not very supplement saavy, I use whey protein regulary, eat a tablespoon of flax oil every morning and take a multivitamin.

Congrats on the progress! :tucool:

SHIIT, :d_tongue: I'm with you on the mountain biking! I love it, can't wait for the snow to disappear. I also joined the rowing club and that starts in June. Should be good, early mornings 3x a week so that will be my cardio. As of this morning I weighed in at 227, but pretty dehydrated.

Where are you located? What's a rowing club? Is that at a gym, or is it like in a kyiac (SP?)?

There is a state park in my parents back yard, so I think I am going to ride tonight. I know its going to be very muddy, but if its toob bad, there are roads and what not I can ride. :tu: I have darts tonight, so no :db: :bb: But I will just jump some rope later and pushups, sit-ups, haven't lost enough to do pull ups yet. :d_frown:

I'm just north of Toronto, you? The rowing club in done in boats like you would see in olympic rowing.

I can't do pull-ups yet either, I figure when I lose another 15 lbs or so I should be able to.

Cool, I am about 40min North of Detroit MI, in Lake Orion. There is only small piles of snow here, and its 62F. Unfortunatly they are predicting rain/snow for this weekend :(

Oh well, I am going to get some biking in after work!

I missed my workout this morning because I felt so sick and weak. Flu like symptoms. Then I calculated total calories from the 2 days before and they were WAY too low. So I ate a good meal, took a nap and now I'm feeling better. I really don't like the idea of having to add everything up and strictly planning meals in advance.. but I guess I may have to.

to tell you the truth i track all my eating and stuff on www.fitday.com...at first it was a pain in the ass...but now im addicted to it!! i dont plan too much, i just make sure its all clean foods, and lots of protien.

Ill take like 6 chciken breats and cook them up in advance and keep em in the fridge. SO that way i wake up have my cerel and cottage cheese, throw some chicken and spinich in a container, apple and banana in my bag, and maybe some rice cakes (sometimes peanut butter with them) takes 5 min to do , and i am good to go for till i get back from work.

and it feels like im pigging out all day cuz im eating every 2 hours...more often then not im still under my calorie goal, so i smack back a protein shake or cottage cheese...

Kessler, are you taking any daily vitamins? drinking lots of water too?

Yeah, a multivitamin, vit-c, vit-e. I love water so I always drink a lot. 2-3 litres a day and then another 2-3 litres while I'm working out.

nice way to go! its all about discipline , good work

i saw on another site that this guy who had a 100 lbs weightloss, used to always say to himself..."whenever i was tempted to eat somethign i wasnt sposed to, i would think about the hour i just had at the gym, and what waste it would be...and then i would think of how guilty i would feel 30 sec after i ate it...and that made me never touch the junk"...

Busted my butt all week , cardio and working out every night after work . I tried getting up and doing in the a.m. but cardio at 3 a.m. was not cutting it with my body so i got right on it as soon as i got home from work every night. I don't do cheat meals but i did have a few beers the other night that made me feel guilty.

Yeah, now that's determination.

I'm getting into the groove now as far as eating and exercise. Quite frankly the first 2 weeks were not pleasant. Having the challenge really kept me focused and reminded me that I'm on track to meet my goals. :tucool:
I adjusted my eating since eating too few calories and I feel much better now.

Has anyone taken up a new sport? I'm thinking about boxing... definitely rowing in the summer but thats a while away. There was a cold snap and we got snow AGAIN, so mountain biking will be an extra few weeks away.

I play intramural softball for Sam Houston. Practice about 3 times a week with hitting and fielding, etc.. nothing too serious where we hit the gym and do laps or anything like that. I am considering power lifting but I dont know yet! I dont want to scare anyone when i wear those skimpy spandex outfits.!

I would like to get into martial arts. I never did before, because I figured I was to Fat, and uncoordinated . I would just really like the peace and tranquility, as well as the knowledge that if push came to shove, I could protect myself. Not to mention this would help keep on the healthy lifestyle track. I just don't know where to start?

Finally got back into am cardio, man I love the feeling. Also, I have been eating mostly noprocessed foods, and fresh fruits and veggies. It is AMAZING how much energy I have now. I don't need a cofee in the AM no more, nore do I feel tired in the afternoon. I do still eat egg's out of a carton, but thats about it.

I know a guy that owns a club, he said the most important thing in joining is finding out their history. For example, he (the Sensei) travels to Japan at least once a year to train and for direction. His roots go back something like 500+ years. I never thought about it, but he said a lot of places open up with a 'Sensei' or trainer that has bought a series of video tapes from 'Jim Bob's martial arts school'. Kind of like getting surgery from Dr. Nick. "Heeeeyyy Everybooody!"

Speaking of sabotage.. my cheat meal turned into a cheat day, a really .. really bad one. It honestly feels like I destroyed about 75% of my progress over the last 3 weeks. I was up 3.5 pounds from 24 hours before but I'm hoping a lot of it is water. I just went to the gym this Sunday AM so I'm going to wait until this evening to submit my stats. Yeah, I have been pretty good lately. Missed a few cardios this week in the am, but made up for them in the evening. I have found that if I stick to a strickt diet, no cheat meals at all, its a lot easier to deal with, for me any way. When I used to do the cheat meals, I would use that as an excuess when ever I wanted to eat something I new I shouldn't... Id just say "Oh I will just make today my cheat day" So now I do not allow myself that option.

I have this week off, due to switching jobs, and waiting on background check and drug screen, so I will be living at the gym!

You guys need to PM me your stats on Sunday. Next week I'll update once from the PM's I have on Monday morning before work and then if you miss it or you're away or something you can catch up the next week. Everyone who's still in needs to pester the guys who stopped updating! Start sending them PM's encouraging them!

Like I said.. I'm determined to do this no matter how long it takes. I just plain refuse to be overweight and feeling worn out and crappy. Stay motivated! Just think of where you want to be and what you want to look like. If if takes a year or even two to get there.. is it worth it? 12-24 months out of your life to be lean and healthy for the rest of it? Nevermind the fact that you feel better as you're doing it.

The way I see it this challenge is really about getting over the 3 month 'hump'. Anyone who sticks with it will be in the groove by month 3 and there will be no stopping. The first month there are going to be setbacks big time. But as long as you get back at it and learn from them you can't be stopped! :db:

No problem at all.. the last thing I want to do is come across as annoyed or something. :D I'm just trying to keep people from slipping, since I've pulled myself up a couple times already. This is the longest I have stuck to this. I may miss cardio in the am from time to time, but I make sure I go for a bike ride after work and hit the gym to make up for it. I will have more time on my hands now, I am off work for the week, then start my new job the following week. I plan on hitting cardio in the am and pm all week long. My weight doesn't reflect what I have lost, I don't have a belt that fits me no more, so I am excited about the before and after pics... which reminds me I need to take this weeks pic.

Nice!! that's everyone except Yogro and the early drops we had.

I think I've gained a bit of lean mass too.

Just thinking out loud. I think the reason I failed in the past was because I wasn't going about it right mentally. I become acutely more aware of my body when I'm working out and dieting and in the past I'd focus on how fat I was or how I didn't like how I looked. That lead to negative feelings about working out and changing my diet and I'd quit. (drift back into a sedentary life where I ignored and got as comfortable as possible with my excess weight) So now I aknowledge that this is NOT where I want to be and then try and focus on what I've done to improve during that day/week and pump myself up to keep going.

I also heard that if you work out consistently for roughly 6 months your body develops a chemical dependency on exercise and you start to crave it and go into withdrawal. I was thinking once everyone finishes the 3 months we could keep going another 3 to hit that 6 month mark. Then we can do a whole writeup on what everyone is doing and share new routines etc.

Just a thought.

I am going over to Windsor for the next couple days for a small vacation. My goal is to stick to my diet for the next couple days. I know cardio is going to be hard to get in, but hopefully I will hit the pool or something. It is my girlfriend and I's 3rd anniversary, so we are just going to have a good time.

I know what you mean about the exercising becoming addicting. I love to go to the gym, and get frustrated and even upset if I can not go.

Speaking of the gym, it cracks me up, every time I go, I want to yell at the lazzy ass in the parking lot that drives around for 10 min to find a close to the door spot. I always park as far as I can, unless the weather is raining and I have the GF with me. I just think how you can be going to exercise and want a short walk to the gym…lol

Im down to 166...im so friggin happy. Im only 6 pounds away from my stage 1 goal!! My deadline is May first, but being at 162 will make me happy going in to my week off...

Im telling you, it was morning cardio that did the trick...i started that this week. Had 3 AM cardio sessions, and 1 PM, along with 3 Max-ot sessions ( that were good, but not great...) but it feels like i havent lost muscle mass...

broke the plateau, i hope that i lose a nice amount before the next one.

Excellent! You're making great progress. I think we lost some people again.. hopefully they'll pick it up this week and have stats for this Sunday.

Well, I'm feeling weird today. Really really anxious about a bunch of things. I start a new job Monday and I went for an interview for a much better job on Wednesday. I'm supposed to be getting a call any time now to find out if I got it. I'm really being hard on myself even though I know I'm right on track with my goals, both professionally and with my health. I'm sticking with it but I just feel a little spun out with all this uncertainty.

You're right.. I was sitting stewing on it. I should have been keeping myself really busy so I couldn't think about it.

The good news is they offered me the job. :claphigh: Now i just have to find a new place to live or decide to commute, and quit my other job without leaving the owner high and dry. :p I guess sometimes stress is a good thing.

the challenge now is try to keep your routine, now that you are gonna be spening more time and energy (stress) on moving and quitting and starting for the new job...alot of decisions coming your way...

this is a whole new start on life, new job coming, maybe new location, and a new body :tucool:

Congradulations!!!!

I just made it through my first week at my new job. The hardest part was sticking to the AM cardio, and keeping to the diet. I ate out the first couple days because I was making sure I kept up with the job. Pluss I now start at 730 insted of 800. So AM's were tough, but I did it every morning.

I switched my training up though. Now I am trying to get 2 miles on the tread mill in every am. So sometimes I get that in 24 min, sometimes longer. All depends on how early I make it to the gym. I find this to be more fun than anything else.

This week I will be in Hermisillo (SP?) Mexico from Wed - Sat, so this is going to be tough. I am pretty sure I can keep to a decent diet, and I plan on swimming and hopefully there is a gmy at the hotel.

PISTONS 106 ---- 76er's 85 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BACK TO BACK

Thanks :D I think everyone is back ! even though the submissions werent done on the weekend I threw you all in there.

I'm the opposite with the treadmill.. I hate the actual act of doing it but I feel incredible for hours after I'm finished. I can't wait till the trails dry out so I can bike for cardio.

I believe this was the challenge I joined a few months back, but I really don't remember to tell you the truth (I completely forgot I joined a challenge until now). I was over 250 at the time when I joined, but you can see my progress in the signature (yesterday wasn't my official weigh in day, but I stepped on the scale anyways 248.5lbs). I'm 2.5lbs shy of losing 40lbs total so far! :tucool:

EDIT: Nevermind, I ran a search for my username and located the challenge I actually joined :o

Yup, I am not sure how fat I am now, but there was some damn good food in Mexico.... I was working 18 hour days, so no cardio for me.

I will hit the gym in the am, and find out how much damage I did.

I'm going nuts with my new job and a bunch of other things but I'm trying to stick with it. We moved my grandmother over the weekend and so much other crap is happening I missed a workout for the first time. (not bad for 7 weeks I guess). I'll get everything updated tonight.

Updated. I felt like complete crap because I was busting my ass and the scale hasn't moved for 3 weeks. I know I've been eating more since my schedule has switched up completely since I started my job. I was going to cut back on food... but I'm almost tempted to do a bulk since I've gained so much visible lean mass since 3 weeks ago and I weigh the same.

Where is everyone!? Hocus and I are feeling abandoned.

Hocus, how is your progress going? Have you had to adjust your goals or routine at all?

Yeah i have...

ive changed the reps on my Max-ot routine to 6-8 reps instead of 4-6, and also switched up some exercises, and im just trying to time my food intake better (eg. fat/protein in the morning, carbs/protien around workouts)

its been hard to get back on track since my trip home to Toronto, but im slowly getting back on it. I just got news that my family is planning a trip to Jamaica in November, so that gives my another goal to shoot for.

When it comes to cardio, im gonan try to stick to morning cardio LISS on lifts days, and none lift days HIIT...but im actaully gonna focus more on weights, not cardio...and diet of course

Hey Kessler dont be discouraged about the lack of change in the scale, i went a month with no change, then wham, i dropped 4 pounds ina week...

im up to 168, mainly due from ym week off, and gaining water weight...but im getting back on track

just me and you man, everyone else had disappeared :db:

the challenge is over! I didn't get any messages with updates so I kind of gave up the last week or two. I'm still at it though. I'll collect final stats and post them.

Start: 232

wow, jsut goes to show how flippen fast the year is going, its not normal that its already june, anyway i am in no better shape then i started. although i dipped into the 30's i stuffed things up and am now back in the 40's sitting on 241...with that it was good while it lasted and now it is time for me to get my ass moving and get some serious work done on myself! :bb:
