View Full Version : Need some help with bulking please.....
sparkym Sun, February 27th, 2005, 06:48 AM I guess im somewhat scared of bulking, thinking ill turn fat if I do it but anyway, here is my plan
Breakfast
4-6 weetabix(or bowl of porridge), glass of milk, glass of water
Daytime Snack
Either homemade shake OR Chicken/Turkey Sancwich + water
Lunch
Either homemade shake OR Chicken/Turkey Sancwich + water
Evening Snack(Pre Workout)
Glass of milk(1 pint) + 1 pint of water
Post Workout
Whey + milk or water (May need an alternative)
Evening Meal
Potatoes, Veggies, Fish(or chicken etc...) + Water
Before Sleep
Either Cottage Cheese or Casein Shake and Water.
Does this sound a good plan, or is it completely wrong, can anyone improve this for me?
Thanks

jsbrook Sun, February 27th, 2005, 02:22 PM anyone?
You need to tell us your calories and macro nutrient split or at least give your portions of everything before anyone can properly advise. (The foods themselves seemfine to me-perhaps more veggies and fruit and more whole food protein sources as opposed to so much reliance on protein shakes)
sparkym Sun, February 27th, 2005, 02:31 PM Counting calories isnt the way to go though, thats what i thought?
jsbrook Sun, February 27th, 2005, 02:59 PM Well, many say that judging by the amount of macronutrients is the way to go. ie. 180 grams of protein, etc... But calculating by calories can be a way to reach the desired amount of macronutrients you have decided upon. Either way, how MUCH of each macronutrient (protein, carbs, fat) you're eating is at the heart of a bulk. something you really should always be aware of anyhow. The meal plan you have laid out doesn't tell us enough is what I mean. When you say protein shake, that could be a scoop of whey and a scoop of dex. Or it could be two scoops of whey and 3 scoops of dex or any combination in between. When you say chicken, veggies, and potatoes, what's your portions of each? Also, what's your weight, bf % or BMR? These provide a starting point for figuring how much you should be eating.

1FastGTX Sun, February 27th, 2005, 06:43 PM I agree, we need more info. "Homemade shake" does not say much. That could be a cup of egg whites and a half scoop of ON Whey for all we know, or it could be 2 scoops of whey and 2 cups of dex for all we know. :)
Additionally, my current bulking diet consists of a lot of lean steak. I find that this has helped me A LOT. Necessary? No. Helpful? Very much.
I would put some more/better carbs into that post-workout meal (better than milk I mean).
Also, how much do you weigh? What are your goals? Provide more info to us and we'll chime in. There are people here willing to help you, you just need to meet us half way. :)

Right. Also, if you're unsure of the basics and/or confused about some of the specific terms we've used so far, check out the beginners guide to bulking sticky. A very good starting point to help you figure out what and how much to be eating. It also has some weight training info as well.

Count the calories. Count your macros. Count your bowel movements - I am not kidding. Count everything man!! Seriously, if you want results you have to know what your parameters are so you can tweak them.
I tell everyone that the 2 most important things I did during my cut was to carefully plan calories, macro ratios, and workout plans, and then to rigorously track weight training info (weight/sets/reps), count macros and calorie levels. This way when things aren't going right, you know EXACTLY what your current plan is, and you can turn the dials until you find the settings that work. Whats more, 6 months or a year from now when you are ready to bulk/cut again, you know EXACTLY where to start.
Empirics are your friend.
