Ok, Tell me your thoughts about butters. Not the character on South Park, the yellow substance you drip on popcorn or spread on bread.

More specifically -- these three:

1. Butter
2. Margerine
3. I Can't Believe it's not Butter.

I've read in places that Margerine is bad for you because of the high trans-fat -- but 'I can't believe' doesn't have any of it.

So -- if you had to spread a half a tablespoon on your popcorn, which would you chose?

What little we use (when we use a spread) we use the I Can't believe...but butter has it's place too- in moderation.

But if you "had" to (who's twisitng your arm?) You might try: http://www.butterbuds.com/

You beat me to it Hort. Butter Buds is what I have been using for the last few years. It tastes great on vegetables, baked potatoes, rice, toast, etc. I'm sure it would be just as good on popcorn. I sprinkle mine on while the food is hot and stir/shake it until it's melted. Good stuff.

My family uses only butter. Trans Fat is only bad fat to me.

The real bad thing about fat is it has twice as much calories as protein or carbs.

I use Smart Balance w/flax. Tastes like butter, lower saturated fat and no hydrogenated oils.

Ok tx and hort, question here

I went and bought your butterbuds. Not bad.

But I put it on my popcorn and it all sank to the bottom! Any advice/tricks for using it popcorn?

Take an equal sized bowl. Put it over the other bowl.
Now:
SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE :spaz:

That's what I do to mix my popcorn.
Whenever i buy margarine/butter/etc, I ALWAYS check to see if it has partially hydrogenated or fully hydrogenated oil. I will never consume that stuff if I can possibly avoid it. Trans-fat is bad no matter how you name it.

We just do two things: take the HOT popcorn and toss it in a brown paper bag then add the buds... close and do this: :spaz:

Take the butter. Saute' some peppers and onions. Add a little sausage. Then scramble in a couple of eggs. Throw away the popcorn and eat the scramble!

Butter is not bad for you. Margarine is.

1. Butter
2. Margerine
3. I Can't Believe it's not Butter.

1. Butter is not bad. It has saturated fat but has good stuff too.
2. Avoid margarines, they have loads of artery clogging trans fats.
3. ICBINB claims on their website that they have no trans fats "per serving". I guess it could work but there are better choices.

As someone else already mentioned before, we eat SmartBalance Light, the new one with flax oil. The omega6 : omega3 ratio could still be more ideal but it is way better than most any other vegetable based spread.

Also, as for popcorn, I would go with cocnut oil for it. They used to cook popcorn in coconut oil before the vegetable oil lobby took over.

Er... I'm a fan of the "I can't believe it's not butter" SPRAY. True, it has 10 calories per 12.5 sprays... but... well.... yum. Works on everything I have, except baking.
