View Full Version : Do you count the calories of your supplements??
Yvette Sat, February 26th, 2005, 02:29 PM I currently log all my foods and supplements on Dietpower. Should I count my supplements? I do count my Udo's because that is fat but what about creatine, glutamine, glucosamine?
These can really add up!
hobowitharolex Sat, February 26th, 2005, 03:05 PM im pretty sure they have no nutritional value anyway so i dont know what you would count
things like whey and dextrose should be counted though
Savyart Sat, February 26th, 2005, 03:09 PM I count everything with any nutritional impact, whether it's calories, or vitamins.

Of course a calorie is a calorie. They do add up, if people counted them! That is biggest reason for slow weight loss and surprise gains is taking in extra calories.
Undigestable fiber is about the only thing that won't bite you but dietary fiber which you can digest does count. There are people not counting vegtables, which is alright if they don't eat them.

LOL!
hobowitharolex Sat, February 26th, 2005, 05:03 PM thats one thing i dont like about fit day, it dosent count fiber calories, it dosent count how much of your fiber is soluable and how much is unsoluble. it just dosnet count any fiber
Yvette Sat, February 26th, 2005, 06:08 PM I guess I will count them. Anything to make this fat disappear!
1FastGTX Sat, February 26th, 2005, 06:47 PM You should absolutely count your supplements, especially if you're talking about protein/meal replacements. Udo's (efa) should be counted too.
Count everything you put in your mouth just to be sure (well except maybe the toothpaste).

i count vegetables myself but i read that it isn't neccessary because the body needs more energy to digest the vegetables than the food itself can deliver.
this is why one cannot survive while eating vegetables only.
another point is that veggies are so low in calories that it makes not much of a difference if you're eating 100g or 500g of them.
though i guess it depends on the type of veggies you're eating :tu:
supirman Sun, February 27th, 2005, 09:59 AM I think the majority of people are too anal with dieting. There is no need to track everything down to the calorie. You can't even be that accurate anyway, even if you measure stuff. Get right around your macro amounts, and don't worry about the actual calories. If I had to count every calorie that went in my mouth and enter everything into a damn database, I would probably stop eating. There's no need to make it that much more complicated.
