I am about to place another big order with ATW--as they seem to be suffering a lag time...I was wondering if people had any thoughts about the new ATW 20-30 blend v. the regular blend.
Here is what ATW says about the new 20-30 blend:
"20/30™ is a great tasting concentrate/isolate whey protein blend. It is made using the best process, low temperature micro/ultrafiltration, resulting in the highest biological values. It has a low molecular weight and is designed to deliver full spectrum protein fractions and microfractions. It is also rich in anticatabolic branch chain amino acids (BCAA). It provides the nitrogen retention and muscle recovery necessary for lean muscle mass, while building muscle strength and endurance...."
"20/30™ helps control appetite and aids in weight loss. For years, bodybuilders have used whey protein to lose weight for a competition. 20/30™ contains a protein fraction known as Glycomacropeptide, which is a powerful stimulator of the pancreatic hormone Cholecystokinin (CCK). CCK is an appetite suppressant that plays many essential roles relating to gastrointestinal function, including the regulation of food intake. Whey protein has long been known to provide a higher level of satiety versus carbohydrates and may help dieters feel less hungry between meals.
The Journal of the American Dietetic Association compared the effects on body weight and composition of two diet plans. One plan included liquid protein meal replacements, and the other followed a more traditional approach. At three months, both groups experienced significant weight loss. After one year, most of the participants in the protein supplement consuming group maintained their initial weight loss while, the traditional group regained most of their weight loss."
I found that last paragraph very interesting about protein powder in general.
"Whey protein is in baby formula, and has been in studies to fight cancer for years.
20/30™ enhances the production of glutathione, one of the body’s natural antioxidants. It helps maintain adequate glutathione levels, which increases muscle stamina and aids the immune system.
A daily diet including the recommended amount of 20/30™ can help keep bones healthy and strong. 20/30™ is an excellent source of calcium. Each serving contains 9% of the recommended daily allowance of calcium. Lack of calcium has been implicated in disorders such as hypertension, premenstrual syndrome and colon cancer.
20/30™ is high in branched chain amino acids (BCAAs). The body prefers to use BCAAs during periods of exercise as a source of energy. The muscles break down BCAAs into glucose, which passes directly into the skeletal muscles from the bloodstream. BCAAs can provide 10-15% of the total energy required during exercise."
I can't seem to copy and paste the nutritional content, but here is a link: http://allthewhey.com/2030%20banana.html#bookmark
And here is a link to the nutritional content of the regular blend: http://www.allthewhey.com/wpc_banana.html
The regular blend also emphasizes BCAA's too. (I am not yet completely familiar with the importance of BCAA's --next research project  )
The regular blend is a bit more expensive than the 20-30.
Currently, I drink both the regular blend and the isolate, switching off depending on whether the meal has otherwise more fat (isolate has less fat and more protein) and which I am in the mood for.
I like the isolate very much but I like the regular blend best.
I use the Chocolate (the most), Strawberry, Vanilla (the least) and Banana of both regular blend and isolate. I also use the orange isolate in my PWO (mixed with carb countdown,.)
I wouldn't shift to 20-30 to save the couple of bucks--but I would if people found there were nutritional advantages. Also I am concerned with taste. I won't use something if I don't like the taste. (Well I take Glutamine Peptides despite the yucchy taste..)
Any thoughts from anyone?
