View Full Version : Deli meats and total ?
Steve Sat, February 26th, 2005, 01:58 PM Hi all , heres my question. I've been eatin 40/40/20 and keeping track with fitday so I almost always hit my target but I've been eating alot of deli meats lately. Both turkey ( 3 oz. servings ) and roast beef ( 96% fat free in 4 oz servings ) do those still count as eating clean ? I'm pretty sure they do but I just wanted to double check.
One more question , whats your take on whole grain Total cereal ??? I like its taste and nutritional qualities and eat it fairly often for breakfast about 45 minutes after my POW shake. I cant stand oatmeal so please dont tell me to eat some oatmeal LoL.
Let my know what you think ...............

LarryNC Sat, February 26th, 2005, 10:01 PM Deli meat is kinda clean but it has ALOT of sodium.. I switched from deli meat to regular lean meat and dropped like 5 pounds of water over the month from just that!

Ya , I hear ya on the sodium but I drink so much water per day I'm hoping to kinda cancel some of it out with that and I'm such a picky eater , I have a hard time trying to find "good clean foods" that I like 'cause I know me , if I dont like it I wont eat it. Since new years I stopped drinking pop , beer , candy - most sugar ( exept for whats in my milk in my pre/post shakes ) and eating all the junk/fast food so basically I stopped eating EVERYTHING that I have lived on for the past couple years ( yes , I know that and lack of excersise got my weight up ) and I'm really liking the switching between turkey and roast beef sandwhiches through out the day. It makes it really easy to eat every two hours with those in my eating routine.
rubberbandman Sun, February 27th, 2005, 11:56 AM Stick with the deli meat. When everything else in your diet is immaculate you can start thinking about things like sodium. Until then, don't burn yourself out trying to over analyze. If deli meat helps you stay on track, stick with it.

OK , well that settles it , I'm just gonna stick it out with my turkey and roast beef sandw. for about a month and see how it goes.
Anyone got any other input ??? I'm still curious about what you guys think about whole grain total cereal 'cause it seems healthy enough.

if the total ceral has good nutrictional content...and you can fit it into your daily intake wothout excessively going over than sure i guess...the thing that many will tell you is be careful with GI carbs if the cereal is whole wheat than i would guess it is on the good side, but in all reality if you can fit it in sure...personally if i would eat Total in the morning i would maybe lower my carb intake later in the day just because i ate such a large carb intake in the morning (DONT CUT CARBS ALL OUT THOUGH) just eat a bit less later in the day and after lifting.... :gl:

I need to watch my sodium and found a terrific alternative to traditional deli meats that you find in the grocery. Whole Foods Market has a no-sodium turkey.
It's a little expensive, but it has *WAY* less sodium than what you will find at the grocery.
Just an FYI.
LarryNC Mon, February 28th, 2005, 04:21 PM I drink 1.5-2 gallons of water per day, and I retained about 5 pounds of water from sodium from about 200% daily value of sodium from deli meats a day, it was weird. Unless you eat alot of deli meat like I did (it was a staple) then you are fine methinks!
dand1996 Thu, March 3rd, 2005, 10:47 PM what would you reccomend to eat instead of the deli meat turkey? do they sell a low sodium turkey? or a sodium free?
what are my other options?
chrisb Thu, March 3rd, 2005, 10:57 PM I usually cut up left overs from the day before (chicken, pork, steak :) , and any other meats I have). Otherwise I'm in the same position, where I have to have pre-packaged deli meats. Right now it's not that big of a deal to me as I'm not cutting, but the sodium is not good.
