I only have one concern regarding the purchase of a cage -- its height! My basement ceilings top out at around 84" -- slightly higher in spots, slightly lower in others. Is this a sufficient reason not to purchase one or should I go ahead and find another way to perform chinups?
Thanks,

tommyspoon, I have the same problem with my basement. My basement from floor to ceiling is just 82". Most power racks/cages are 82". I doubt in any way I can fit one in my basement so I planned to set up in the garage. Are you just buying a power rack/cage to perform chinups? If so... which would be crazy, you don't need to. You probably have enough room to set up one in your basement. Although you won't be able to do chinups because of the ceiling being right there. So what you can do is buy a chinup bar that goes between a doorway, or you can spend more money on a chinup stand/station.

Does anyone have an idea as to how much ceiling height is required to do chinups comfortably with an 82" power rack? I have 92" ceilings, but that seems like it would be a little snug. True?

My ceiling in the basement is also 85". I purchased the Powertec cage and it actually stands @ 83.5". When I do my chin-ups, my head goes past the beams, but I don't hit my head. [and I'm 6'4"]
All of the chinup stand/station stand @ 82" -to- 84". So your stuck with the same minor problem. Go with the power cage!! :tucool:
JeffC, 92" ceilings should do you just fine.

Hey guys,
Check out the BodySolid Multi-Press rack in this thread:

It's the last picture. I think that will be my next purchase as my ceilings are also too low for a cage.
