Just getting in thoughts for when I start weight training. For some reason, my whole life it's been like I have two bodies. My upper body is on the flabby side, usual faire you know.. needs some work (which is why I'm doing this). However, I've always had very toned, very muscular legs (27" thigh, 17" calf, no discernable fat to pinch)

Whilst I know I should train my legs to increase my muscle strength, is it worth just performing maintenance on my legs instead of physical building until everything around it is the right proportion? Obviously I don't want to end up with a nicely toned top half and massively bulky legs!

Its really up tp you. Once you start getting a good physique symmetry and proportion become factors. Its funny how you want to slow the growth of your legs down. Usually its the opposite, I always see guys walking around with great upper bodies but chicken legs down below. I dont think I've ever seen them use the squat rack. Dont stop working them altogether, just do fewer sets or reduce the weight because its important you still stimulate them. Your lucky youve got good legs. I've always had small legs (part neglect and part genetic) and I'm only just buildin them up. I've come to realise that what makes or breaks a great physique is how good your quads and calves are. (hamstrings important to), anyone can have a good upepr body but a lot of people struggle getting fit muscular legs.

Thanks Marcus, having done a little research I think I'll do compound exercises on the legs and isolation exercises on the others until I look in the mirror and see things 'catching up' :tu:
