In this forum, I've read so many post regarding on, "How much protein do we really need". There are some of you guys who believe in 1 gram of protein per pounds and some agree with 1 gram of protein per kilogram, and te debates continue... So I just want to make it clear for me, I'm planning to "clean up" my diet, so to speak. I'll pay more attention to my diet, but I won't be counting calories, yet. I'll rather stick with the portion size first. Since I'll be eating more clean, automatically my total caloric intake would be lowered. Is it ok if most of my calories comes from carb (approximately 50%) and I'll be eating 1 gram of protein per kilogram of bodyweight? To generalize, I'm asking if it's okay to be cutting on that amount of protein?

I'm not sure why there is so much debate. I know it is possible to cut on less than 1g per kilogram of body weight, because I've done it and my clients have done it. Does more protein mean less muscle loss and bigger muscles? I don't know. I just know I'm happy with the final result - lean, healthy, and full of energy and fitting in 32" slacks. So why would I worry about "what if" it was higher or lower? Doesn't seem like much debate to me.

1g per kilogram should be fine.

To me that's too low and you'll lose mass. I find that is the case when I try to cut with low protein. I take upwards of 1.3-1.5g/lb of body weight.

Don,

After tracking this debates for years, I say get at least 77 gms and you should never neeed more than 150-180 gms. If you eat more and have healthy kidneys, it shouldn't hurt you. But if you gain muscle don't give the protein, credit.

Calories count. The macro splits are over the map, pick one. Get the diet thing in order and get on the resistance exercise.

Thanks for your reply Jeremy, your statement gives me the confident that I'll be able to get leaner on a moderate amount of protein. I was a believer that in order to get cut, I need a lot of protein, even more than my carb intake (guess these are the result of reading too much Muscle&Fitness ).

Supirman, not that I disrespect your opinion, but I used to try that before, but I think it's way too much for me, I'd rather have a higher carb intake, I feel more comfortable plus it gives me more energy to do my activities. But I believe that you're not the only one who believes on a high-protein diet, even John consume a high protein on his first cut... :tucool: Oh, and by the way, I don't think that you'll lose mass if your total caloric intake is in check, but surely you'll lose mass if you eat too little...

Does this mean mean, get at least 77 grams and I should not need more than 180 grams? Great advice, and 77 grams also seems to be the recomendation of the food pyramid... :tu:
