View Full Version : Sucralose-free Protein Powder?
grey Mon, February 21st, 2005, 05:12 PM Can anyone recommend a protein powder that's free of carcinogenic sweeteners? Maybe even chocolate bars? I realise they don't like to add sugar so they can market their products as low-carb, but if I'm having this stuff daily, I'd feel better if there wasn't stuff like sucralose in it.
Speed Trials Mon, February 21st, 2005, 07:18 PM I'm not a fan of artificial sweeteners either, so I was disappointed to discover that the protein powder I was using (All The Whey) contains sucralose. I recently made the switch to this:
Solgar Whey To Go (http://www.vitacost.com/store/products/productdescription.cfm?SKUNumber=033984036680&searchby=PN)
grey Mon, February 21st, 2005, 07:32 PM Looks good. How does it taste?
I just remembered that I saw an unsweetened/unflavoured variety of NHF Whey Delicious at the store a few weeks ago.

I've only tried it post-workout (with Sucanat), so I'm not sure how it tastes on its own, but sweetened it tastes pretty good.

I started out with and am still using Precision Engineered Whey Protein, which is sold at Vitamin World. It is free of sucralose/aspartame and Fructose. And tastes great. I use the vanilla flavor. I pay only 12 bucks per 2 pound tub, with the 40% members discount.

Whoa! I never knew of any artificial stuff that has been proven to cause cancer! I have ordered ATW but am regretting now! I will have to find another substitute.
too bad!
Do others know about this as well or do they just take it anyway?
PeteBDawg Tue, February 22nd, 2005, 11:48 AM Just get the unflavored stuff. Unflavored ATW doesn't have any sweeteners in it.
You're probably going to be adding some sort of sugar to it most of the time, so you really don't need the fancy flavoring.
I mean, come on, the stuff is industrial cheesemaking waste. It's not supposed to taste like bananas. Is it really that much of a surprise that it's got artificial flavoring? What do you think they put in there?

There is not a single reported case of any human being having died from ingesting artificial sweetners - thats why people ignore research where they're feeding pounds of ANYTHING to a rat and watch the rat die.
If you do the math - you'd have to eat somewhere in the neighborhood of a truckload of Saccarin per week to match the amount they fed to rats in the studies. Personnally - I think eating a truckload of ANYTHING each week would probably kill you - or at least make you fairly sick. ;)
Relax - unless you're planning to own a farm and grow everything yourself - billions of people before you have lived long healthy lives eating this stuff - you'll die when your body decides its time to die.

In the grand scheme of things, artificial sweeteners haven't been around for very long, so do we really know what the inherent dangers of long-term use are?
If the the thread starter doesn't want to use a protein powder that contains artificial sweeteners, that's his decision. He never made any statement trying to discourage other people from using them. Why try to dissuade him?
Obviously, it's not practical for all of us to live in a kibbutz and avoid all processed foods, but the avoidance of artificial sweeteners seems like a no-brainer to me since I don't even like how they taste.
booster Thu, March 12th, 2009, 09:25 AM I use ProEnergy from Energy first. It comes in green powder, chocolate and vanilla. It is sweetened with stevia. It tastes very good with no clumps. http://www.energyfirst.com/
The only drawback is, it is not cheap. I drink it twice daily and my wife and children also drink it.

yes but the implication was made that sucralose was a carcinogen. If he doesn't want to ingest sucralose, I agree, thats his choice. But its statements like this that get passed through the paper cup telephone, and before you know it, suddenly everyone's under the impression that if you've been in the presence of sucralose that your days are numbered.

HevyMetal Sat, March 14th, 2009, 03:10 PM I use "Kaizen".....it's readily available around here (Western Canada)...sweetened with Stevia. I think it's made in Vancouver, British Columbia,......but don't quote me on that.
Another one I use is:-
Webber Naturals 100% Natural European Whey:- also sweetened with Stevia. (www.webbernaturals.com)
Webber's is available at Costco here....2kg tub for about 37$ Cdn.
Don't know if you can get it in the States tho'.
MeanStang Tue, March 17th, 2009, 02:53 AM optimum natural whey has no artificial sweeteners.
