Just wondering if this is ok for my diet...I was one of those poeple that ate really little and thought that was good. Like 500 cals a day. Now im trying to eat more and I found a breakfest I like. I usually have some oatmeal and then about an hour later make myself an egg muffin sandwich.

So this includes 1 muffin, 1 large egg microwaved, slice of cheese, and a slice of turkey. Does this sound good? Now in this little meal would it benefit me to take out the yolk or is it fine being there. I am trying to lose weight Im 6'1" and 249lbs and need to work on getting my cals up as I usually only hit 1200 a day and should be atleast 2000 according to everyone.

Its one of the few things I found I can afford on my college budget and can make very quickly. I was also thinking about trying Chili...is this a good idea as I know usually canned food isnt good but thats all I can afford.

I'm a big egg advocate (I have 24 chickens, :D )

Eggs are power packed with nutrients. A whole egg has about 75 calories (4 egg whites are closer to 67 calories) - while a whole egg does then add fat, it also adds vitamins and so on. I think on a college budget it is an excellent option to not only get in quality protein but help up your calories at the same time. :tu:

I get two soft boiled eggs a day (on most days anyway). There is fat but it's the only bad fat I eat, the rest being either olive oil or the oil in smoked salmon and similar.

I'd say that as long as you do not have cholesterol problems and your overall macronutrient ratios are good, it's fine. Eating too little fat can also trigger the body's starvation reflex whereby you store fat (even if you get enough calories). You should get between 15% and 20% of calories from fat in your diet to avoid the starvation reflex and get the fat that is needed for health. Be sure to get good fats in your diet though, as they also counter the effects of bad fats. And it can actually be hard to reach a suitable calorie intake with zero fat! I mean 2000 KCal a day would be a LOT of tuna and lettuce...

My egg breakfast consists of 2 large eggs, 1 egg white from a large egg and 1 scoop of ATW blended protein powder. It is also a post work-out meal after a fasted cardio. I am losing weight and body fat so I would be more concerned about the bread you are eating.

Others think carbs are important in this meal. Also if you are trying to bul, But I think most people here, whether or not they thought carbs was a good idea at this point --would question bread. Flour products are not usually a good source of carbs --better oatmeal or grits.

Very good point about suitable calorie intake. Once you reach your target bodyfat or want to bulk it is real hard to get back to eating enough cals without having plenty of fat. In fact, when you get real low bodyfat levels, your fat intake becomes real important to maintain proper hormone function.

Eggs are fine for your diet. In fact, saturated fats are needed and actually produced from carbs in the body naturally because they are more stable than mono and polynunsaturated fats. There needs to be a balance between them. All of the bad press with saturated fats comes from the that fact that the typical american diet is too excessive. My point is don't be scared of saturated fats, but don't overdo them. If your diet consists of less than 10% saturated fats then you are more than fine. Who can do without eggs. like Savyart says, even though the protein source is the egg white, all the nutrients are in the yolk. Chances are, unless you have chemical imbalances then your healthy lifestyle will keep your cholesterol at more than tolerable levels. Enjoy eggs as long as they fit in your diet!

Sure it's fine. Egg fat is not the healthiest fat, but that amount won't hurt you so long as most of your fat comes from high quality sources. Having said that, egg beaters made with olive oil are delicious. (don't like egg whites myself). At 0g of fat, you can have mounds of egg beaters to get 180 calories of pure protein. I make mine with olive oil to add back some good fat and peppers and tomatoes and peppers to make a vegetable omelette. I also have an apple with it or whole grain bread. It's a really good, filling 400 calorie breakfast. If you wanted to switch it up for variety and eliminate the yoke sometimes, you could scramble a little egg beater with some olive oil and eat it in the muffin with the slice of cheese and turkey.

Egg fat is much better than frying oil, thats for sure.

The pros outweigh the cons when it comes to full eggs. I eat full eggs, for example, 3 full eggs and 3 egg whites.

First of all, I just want to congratulate you for making a good decision, upping up your caloric intake...:claplow:
Man, 500 kcal will not only send you into starvation mode, makes your emotional well-being questionable, but also, I bet you won't last to see the result... :p

Anyway, like most of these guys and gals here said, eating the yolk is fine, just make sure you're feeding your body what it needs and not overdoing it. I myself usually limit myself to 2 whole eggs per day, but for no reason :o You can actually eat up to 3 or 4. And also, the cholestrol found in foods, does not have a direct impact on your cholestrol level... (Or so I've heard...)
