I've been training and going to the gym for a while now, ive seen myself get fitter but no weight loss!!! Ive starting also doing runs in the morning and at night whenever I can get the time, usually three times a week, to help. Ive built up to 2miles at 24minutes, is this good, im not so sure if I should be happy with this time or not! Thanks

I've always done running for cardio and at first, i did 2 miles pretty slowly too. Once you start running for a while, it becomes easier, and then you should try to go 4. Don't worry about how fast you do it unless you plan on winning a marathon in the near future.

also - buy a heart rate monitor. I've found myself saying this at least twice a day to people ever since i bought mine. To keep your heart rate between 150 and 160 is quite an easy task with running, and you'll realize the slower the better. (for fat loss)

send me a priv. message if you want more info.

Man, how young are you? 150-160 is a bit fast for me for fat burning, and I've been running for a while....

So -- 210 subtraced by your age = MaxHR

I'm 26 so mine is 194.

So I want to be between 126 and 146. (65%-75%)

For weightloss, you need to look at all aspects of your program - especially your diet.

Running is relative. Is there a goal you are after? If you are thinking of maybe someday trying out a little 5k (3.1 miles) race, you can start working on your times by maybe adding a little speed session once a week (sort of like interval training), or looking up a training plan (www.runnersworld.com is an excellent place for this.) In general, though - it is what feels good to you.

I started running when I did my first BFL challenge 4 years ago. I only ran the first 30 seconds of each highpoint. Things progressed, I took an interest, and I was running at about an 11 min mile pace. Neither good nor bad. My pace, after scaling back after having now completed a marathon (that was my goal) these many years later is more around an 9 minute mile, and friends of mine go at 6 min miles (but they're freaks of nature in my opinion. :D )

In the end, for the whole - you burn the basically same amount of calories for a mile walked or ran, you get a better cardio benefit from running it, however (depending on your fitness level.) So, it's all about what you are trying to accomplish with it. Speed, endurance, caloric deficit?

220 - age = maxhr :) <-- i really believe this depends on what kind of shape a person's in, even though i've never seen anything written on it.
"80% maxhr" for me doesnt even make me short of breath - i could do it while sleeping.

i go based on what anthony ellis says in his book, and stay between 70% and 84% max hr during my runs. is anthony right? i really dont care. i figure if something is highly debated over, then it doesnt matter either way :)

Unless you are doing HIIT, 25 mins for a cardio session is too short to burn fat. You'd be better off doing 3 miles in 45 minutes than 2 miles in 24 minutes. Maybe part jog/part walk if you cannot run for 45 minutes.
In 20 minutes, you have essentially just warmed up, it's the next 25, that really start to burn fat and result in raised metabolism.
