Hey everyone, yes I know im still new here but trying. I have been doing some searches about the HRM and have been thinking about getting one. Im doing cardio 3 days a week and weights 3 days a week right now but I am very new to this. Do you guys think I should invest in one?

Also, which monitor should I look for. Remember Im a college student and money is a big factor so $30 is a lot of money. But if that is my only choice I can try to find some money and hopefully in a month purchase one if it will be that much or more. Please any recommendations let me know caus ebay has been the only place I have found cheap ones.

They have them at Walmart for $30.

You don't need the expensive monitors. The cheapest one will do just fine.

If there's a gadget that you should buy for your transformation, I would argue that a heart rate monitor is what you should buy.

I have the cheap model that gives you your average heart rate at the end of your training. I write this down in my logs, and it helps motivate me while I'm doing cardio.

What features are you looking for -- I was considering just getting the $29 special at WalMart but after reading how inaccurate the calorie counters are on treadmills etc I decided to spend a little and get a HR monitor that counts calories burned as well as gives the HR.

I bought a GNC HR for $50 from drugstore.com after looking at tons of others -- go online to drugstore.com or sportsauthority.com and check out what they are offering (features etc) for what price and see what you really want and need.

Yeah -- money is a big deal for me, too, but I bought a cheap Polar (the Beat), it doesn't even tell me my average, just my HR at the moment. But it was really worth it. It is the first piece of equipment I would recommend buying.

I purchased a sportline by Walking Shop from Target for $30.00 last week. Works great and also calculates you calories burned as well.
