I have a simple question: How do I get well formed, yet not flat-to-the-surface, or nipple-saggingish pecs???

Sounds like a simple question eh? Heres the challenge....how do I do it without a bench press?

Well tell us what you do have. Dumbells? Barbells? Any sort of bench?

I suggest push ups, a lot of them.

It always starts with your diet...

It always starts with your diet...Yep. Lose the fat. Thats #1.

To develop your pects, you need to do some kind of chest press. Your options are either barbell press (which aparently you dont have), dumbell press (if you dont even have these you could always improvise, but if youre serious, get some), or old fasioned push-ups (which will only take you so far).

I've got two fifteen pound dumbells(plus smaller ones) no kind of bench, and what I tried to start to do the other day is I put two 4lbs, two 5lbs, and a 3lbs dumbell inside a large poster tube..and have been using that as a bench....think its a good idea?

 LOL, no. But DAMN that's creative! That adds up to 21 pounds total... you could probably press that all day. You'd do better to stick with the pushups.

I'd do pushups, but use a backpack and put the weight on your back. It will work just as well as a real bench press.

Make sure you can do 3 sets of 10-12 reps of body weight pushups before you start adding weight. Then add weight until you can't do 3x10, and if you max out on weight do 3 sets to failure w/ all the weight in the backpack and really slow down your decent on the pushups. Try to do a 3 second decent, pause at the bottom for 1 second, and then explode through the pushup. It will make them much harder, especially with the added weight!

Then, move over to some stairs and put your feet up a couple of stairs, and do 3 more sets of 10 to 12 (or to failure again). Then, flip around and put your hands up one or two steps and you rfeet on the ground and do it again.

That will give you 3 sets of flat bench, 3 sets of incline, 3 sets of decline. Try to balance it out w/ matching sets of rows or pullups/chinups where you lean back (so it works more like a row) and your legs go forward. (you can wear the backpack for pullups, too)

It sounds like you have about 51 lbs of total weight around there, so it should last a little while.

To do a job right, you need the proper tools. Get a bench, get dumbells, get a proper weight set, and get the job done.

That is like asking:

"how can I build software without a text editor?"

My answer would be:

"lots of ways, but none that I would recommend! Get vim!"
