View Full Version : Ticked of at my poo timing...
Stecman Tue, February 15th, 2005, 09:38 PM So... This may be a 'too much information' thread, so if you don't want to hear it, click the back button...
Anyways, I've been running in the morning about 2 1/2 weeks now, and the timing of my bowel movements seem to come right during my run.
I go to a nearby track to do laps - it's nice because I can jump in my car when I need to to go home -- but I still have had to cut my workout short or grit my teeth and endure the last couple laps. :o
It's frustrating though, because I put all this work into getting out there and it cuts it short or makes it very unenjoyable.
So, any strategies for changing the timing of the 'movement'? I was thinking if I could make it a bit more solid it could change the time of it or something...
mexican163 Tue, February 15th, 2005, 11:23 PM seriously, wake up an extra 15 min and sit on toilet. Eventually your body will "learn" to go then. Also used to happen on leg days. I think the heavy lifting got it moving. :d_redface
bisous Wed, February 16th, 2005, 10:25 AM You could also eat when you get up in the morning before your run. Eating stimulates the gastrocolic reflex which incites moving your bowels. Ahem.
slush_puppy Wed, February 16th, 2005, 12:01 PM I used to have that problem, too (when I ran). Fortunately, there was a grocery store at the halfway point on my run that I'd visit often for just that reason. The morning crew knew me well... in a strange sort of way.
williamso Wed, February 16th, 2005, 02:35 PM I've had trouble here, too. I forced myself (using heavy doses of fiber for a few days) to change my body's timing. Now it's not so much a problem. Once you get regular with good timing -- be careful of how much fiber you eat and when. Do it regularly, you'll be regular with good timing. That's worked so far for me.
jonnycashman Fri, February 25th, 2005, 09:20 PM Same thing used to happen to me right before a hockey game. I'd get all my pads on and be listening to the coach give his usual speech about communication and then boom, it'd hit me. Schedule a time to go every day and just sit until somthing happens. Eventually your body will learn. Hell it worked with my dog, so I figured it'd work for me.
andi Fri, February 25th, 2005, 11:43 PM Do situps (or any kinda quick pre-run workout) to "get things going" before you run.

I don't know if you are a coffee drinker but it certainly kick starts my system each morning! I have a cup to a cup and a half each morning and within 5 minutes it's time to "go". If I miss my morning coffee...everything gets moving later in the day.

i'm with the coffee... it goes through my system like liquid drano. literally, starts clearing out the pipes. if i drink a cup when i wake up, i guarantee i'll be on the can within the next 20 minutes...
i wish i were my girlfriend - she wakes up because she HAS to go! it's like a natural alarm clock! lucky person...
