View Full Version : Eating at work dilemma
Yvette Tue, February 15th, 2005, 02:55 PM I have a slight dilemma. I cannot take time away from my desk to have my 2 snacks at the office.
I do not want to eat too many bars so I am thinking about bringing shakes to work.
Has anyone blended their shakes the night before and frozen them? I have tried blending them in the am but by the time I am ready to drink them they have seperated and were not tasty. I thought if I froze them and overnight and then put them in the fridge at the office they would be drinkable. Any suggestions or recipes?

I usually eat my snacks at my desk ... baby carrots ... sliced green bell peppers ... berries or other fruit in those 1 cup tupperware-type containers ... cottage cheese ... string cheese ... yogurt ... the occasional bits of leftovers.

I can't eat at my desk. I have patient's filtering in and out and my doctor does not allow food in working areas. I am sneaking off now in the mornings to eat my food but I have received a few "looks" from the boss and I am a little uneasy about doing this daily.
Gillisc Tue, February 15th, 2005, 09:01 PM If you're going to stick with the shake idea, I'd recommend putting the powder into a shaker and taking the shaker to work (mostly empty but for the MRP). When it comes time for you to 'sneak' a meal (how horrible an environment it sounds like to make sneaking a meal necessary), throw in your water, shake it up & drink. You've already discovered they taste horrible pre-mixed. I would suggest you try the same trial-and-error method with mixing it ahead of time & freezing it; BUT I believe I may have read somewhere that there are other reasons, besides taste & texture, to avoid pre-mixing an MRP. I'm not positive about that one, though.
MGB Tue, February 15th, 2005, 09:54 PM I get Isopure Zero Carb (bottled, NOT the mix).
These are $2-3 per bottle, but are quick, convenient and don't taste bad at all. Try the fruit punch.
NEVER get the ZeroCarb mix. It's different, horrible and should be banned from the earth :)

If you can afford an RTD then try one of those. You can get them in cans, bottles, or in those small cartons.
Surely, you're allowed bio breaks. Alternately, you can mix your whey whilst breaking. It shouldn't take more than a minute to add water, shake and then sip at your desk.
G_Man Wed, February 16th, 2005, 01:35 PM I keep all my food and snacks at my desk in an insulated soft sided lunch container. I put a reusable frozen ice bag in to keep everything cold. I blend my protein drinks in the morning before going to work.
JeremyLikness Wed, February 16th, 2005, 01:41 PM Have you considered talking to your boss about it? Let them know you are focused on a healthy lifestyle and have learned that eating every 3 - 4 hours is best for your health. Explain that you are managing your weight and improving your health, and not being able to have that meal is actually a negative impact. Could they allow you 5 minutes to have a meal or perhaps bring healthy snacks to the desk?
It never hurts to ask. It became accepted at my IT firms that I ate this way - I would even have bars or fruit that I brought into boardroom meetings with executives, and in fact it only served to promote our company as focused on healthy values and would create synergy at the meetings.

Yvette Wed, February 16th, 2005, 01:57 PM Thanks for all the great advice.
I think I will just ask if I can take an early break in the am to have my meal. If they don't seem happy about it I will just mix a shake and drink it at my desk.
Skoorb Wed, February 16th, 2005, 01:57 PM I always eat everything at my desk. Some things I bring are apples, bananas, cottage cheese in a small tupperware container, bars, salad (not enough unfortunately of these!) in a tupperware, chicken boob in tupperware, etc. Tons of food is available to eat at the desk. I keep it in a tiny cooler that I bought from walmart, with an icepack or two. I also keep some diet pepsi in there too :)
