I saw a post here about 4 - 6 weeks ago. Can't find it now and not sure what forum it was under so if someone notices there was a similar topic - apologies.

January 10th was to be the start of my journey to lose 70lbs and become a lean mean fighting machine again (sorry, used to box years ago). However since that date I've come down with a cold - took some medication. Ended up with a chest infection - week of antibiotics. Felt ok for a few days but started getting a cough which has ended up with me having a headache for the last 4 days. Went back to the Doc today and was told still have the chest infection and its now spread to the sinuses. I'm on another dose of antibiotics and have to take some steriods and some prescription painkillers (solpadine stopped working) for the next week. The whole situation has left me completely wasted and by the time I'm over this I'll be minimum of 5 weeks behind schedule.

The Doc says that they've treated numerous people like this over the last 8 - 10 weeks. Just wondered if anyone else has been hit like this recently and how long has it taken to recover?

Sorry to hear of your recent bout of illness.
Unfortunately, not any cures for colds and flu and as for infections they are commonly treated with antibiotics. The answer is prevention for the future. For now though:
My advice is get well first before doing any strenous activity or cardio, as you could really knock yourself back. Some have gone on to have post viral flu, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or ME as we say in the UK.
Plenty of rest, take live yougurt to get some good cultures in your system. Plenty of water, fresh fruit and veggies and stay away from proceessed foods and junk. You are what you eat. If possible avoid antibiotics if you can, but ask the Doc first if they are really necessary. When the body has infections and fights itself it wil be stronger to resist other infection, however always take the Doc,s advice, sometimes Antibiotics can save a life.
However, build the body up, read good nutrition books, make the body strong to resist future bugs and flus going around.
I rarely have a cold, occasionally I get the start of a sore throat but never develops into anything and I put that down to eating at least five portions of either fruit or veggies every day. Fresh water and minimal junk.

My two cents (pence) worth

PS I wonder if the fact that you have started to eat healthy and lost all that weight could be a sign of throwing off some toxins as well. If thats the case you will build up again. Keep up the good work.

Sorry to hear about your health. In december, I had a 2 week bout with pneumonia whch was just awful.

My advice would be to not get bothered about the time it;s taking to get better. You can always start when you get better. The same applies after you start. If you ever get sick and can't work out, or if you just decide to take a break, you just pick yourself up and get going again. Don't let anything stop you from continuing.

And don't worry about when you'll start. Get yourself better now by getting the rest that you need.

Thanks for the advice and words of encouragement guys. Frustration is a dangerous thing. Biggest danger to not feeling well is not being motivated to do anything including cooking - should really delete the number of my local Chineese from my phone.
