View Full Version : Lat Pull downs and Tricep Push downs - excellent exercises? Skull crushers, close-grip bench, and weighted dips are far superior in my mind OptimusPrime Fri, February 4th, 2005, 08:33 AM I like lat pull downs, but the same motion can be accomplished with pull ups and weighted pull ups Depends how long you've been lifting and/or how strong you are, i myself can't do pullups yet, so i do lots of pulldown variations - tricep pulldowns are ok to begin with i guess, but later on the close grip bench and dips are the way to go. Kino Fri, February 4th, 2005, 09:14 AM You're limiting your decision by thinking that you'll only be able to do 2 more exercises. As your training progresses you'll find alot of things that can be done by having a high/low pulley set-up. I actually have two seperate set-ups. The one that is on my leverage equipment, and another I rigged up on my rack(only a high pulley) that has more travel than the other. That's another thing to concider...the amount of travel available for exercises. The ones that mount on the back portion of a power rack shouldn't have any problem, but you'll want at least 5' of free travel for the weight. Less than that and your range of motion can get cut short on some exercises down the road. My new favorite exercise off of the high pulley is something I call extreme woodchops. These are awesome for core development, chest, arms, ab's, obliques, and can really get the metabolism going. Lucky13MN Fri, February 4th, 2005, 09:17 AM Please explain 'woodchops'... :tu: I like tricep pushdowns using the rope, but will never give up skull crushers! Another thing I like for triceps are dips. Word. THIS is the only answer one needs. Thread finished. Seriously, I love my cables. Cable crunches. pull downs, cable rows, tricep push downs, crazy hyper-extreme woodchop mania, the possbilities are endless! glenn_001 Sat, February 5th, 2005, 06:17 AM I like lat pull downs, but the same motion can be accomplished with pull ups and weighted pull ups As for tri-pull downs, not a big fan all all. Skull crushers, close-grip bench, and weighted dips are far superior in my mind These exercises in the quote are the best if you want to grow these areas, but lat pulldown machine is definately a worthy purchase for the other exercises mentioned in the threads above. |
