UPDATE** Here is a before photo. I only have one of my face from an old work ID. When I can, I'm going to try and get a body shot from my x-gf. You pretty much get the idea from the face shot. My body matched my face with rolls of fat everywhere :( I avoided having my pic taken when I was that big. I also included a shot of my face from today so you could compare face to face ;)

Sorry I dont have a before photo. As soon as I can get to a scanner I'll show you what a LARDASS I was a year ago. Its a night and day difference. Anyway this is what I look like now.

You are looking terrific! Good job! :tucool: I gotta say though, you sure don't look like 215...you look pretty lean to me! Anyhow, when you can post your befores...I just LOVE looking at transformations...they are so so motivating!

310 down to 215? Incredible! I'm going through a similar transformation myself. I'm going from 290 down to 165 (which is my dream/goal weight). I'm at 210.5 now (after the first two weeks of my cutting cycle), after gaining 15 lbs. over the holidays.

After I reach my goal I'm planning on taking a break for a couple months and then I'll begin a clean bulk phase to get up to 190 lbs. at 10% bodyfat (my ultimate goal).

Excellent work. Please don't forget to post the before photos!!

Wow, losing 95 pounds is no small task - excellent job! I'd love to see a "before" picture when you can get one scanned in!

Can you post some more details about how you lost the weight (diet/workout routines?) I'm sure it would be very helpful to a lot of people.

I started at 310lbs a year ago. I was terribly obese and out of shape. At first, I did Atkins induction. I ate all the cals I wanted ~3500/day with low carbs and lost 30lbs easily. For exercise, all I could do was walk at first. A 30minute walk was a marathon! After the first 30lbs, I started having to watch my cals. Now, I eat controlled carb in a 40-50% protein 40-50% fat and 10% carb 2000-2300cal/day diet. Most of my fats are healthy fats like natural peanut butter and olive oil. I've gone from barely being able to walk 30minutes to running 4miles in 35minutes without feeling winded and lifting some respectable weight. I do a 3 day weight split and cardio 4days. I alternate between moderate long intensity cardio(around 45minutes) and HIIT(20-25min)

To be honest, I still dont look that great with my shirt off. I've got loose skin on my abdomen, stretch marks and residual chest fat. I'll never be a mens health model thats for sure! I dont really feel comfortable showing a shot with my shirt off but I'm going to try and get the before pic up as soon as possible. Right now, the only thing I have that shows me at my heaviest is a face shot from a work I.D. I totally avoided having my pic taken when I was that big! I'm going to get that scanned. It alone will be very telling since you'll see I looked like pumpkin head! I'm going to contact my x-gf becaue I'm pretty sure she has one of me when I was pretty heavy.

I'm probably ~25% bodyfat right now. I know it may not look it but since I"m carrying a nice amount of muscle, its hard to tell. I think I need to be about 195 or so before my bodyfat is where I want. One nice thing about being obese is you actually build a lot of muscle carrying that weight around. Plus, my theory is that someone that tends to gain fat easily is also someone that is easily anabolic. It is very easy for me to make strength/muscle gains but very hard to shed fat!

thanks for all the responses!

thanks!

I've been following your site as well. You are doing great!

I wish I could keep my cals as low as you. If I could, I'd probably hit goal in a few weeks! I just have too much appetite to do a 40/40/20 and eat that low cal. I need more fat to stay full and keep the cals low so I eat around 2000-2500cals/day on a 50protein 40fat and 10carb diet. I also cheat pretty bad at least once a week and hit up to 4000cals on that day! Because of my eating habits, I'm only losing maybe a lb a week or less, but I workout religiously. Works pretty good for now but may need to change up soon!

Unfortunately, dinner is still one of my biggest meals. I TRY to keep it no more than 600cals and with very low carbs. I also try to make sure its no less than 2 hours before I go to bed. If I get really hungry right before bed, I drink a Metamucil shake. It has virtually no calories and explodes in your stomach keeping you from snacking!

Honestly, the way I am treated by women now is so much different!!

Its exhilerating and saddening!

I have SO much more "friendliness" from women now. Even women that are married and arent conciously flirting with me are much more "friendly" and "touchy feely" I really like it but in a way it makes me sad because it makes me realize what a physical world we live in. I'm the same person inside but because I've transformed my appearance and health, I'm more attractive.

An interesting study was done on sexuality where women were required to "smell" dirty tshirts worn 24hours by men. The interesting thing was that fit mens shirts were found to smell much more pleasing than out of shape men's shirts

I'm the same person inside but because I've transformed my appearance and health, I'm more attractive.

Keep in mind that's not necessarily true. In addition to being in better shape you probably give off a more self confident vibe now, and we girls can sense that a mile away. Of course it is possible for some guy in great shape to take the self confidence thing too far and become downright arrogant, and for a lot of women (I know this is the case for me) that really kills the attractiveness. So while you may feel you're the same person inside, are you really? You were a big guy. You gave in to the things that allowed you to get into that shape. Now you have more self control, discipline, and willpower- those are the things that made it possible to be in the shape you're in now. That means you had to change. You're a stronger person physically and mentally. That's sexy.

I would agree completely with that. I feel that I've never been lacking in self-confidence but my wife tells me that she has seen a BIG difference in me between now and last summer when I started cutting.

Self-confidence is an amazing thing and chicks dig it alot more than you think.

I agree w/ your analysis Vortex (sorry Andi). The reality is human courtship is often (although I'll admit not always) based on the obvious: the physical. You never know how brilliant, funny, kind, or caring someone is until you talk to them. But who do you talk to? I believe the gal/guy who is cute is going be approached (or well received if they approach you) much more often than their obese counterpart.

Think about it: how many messages are we bombarded with from the various media about how we should look? What is the "standard of beauty"? How many of us look like models? How many of us wish we looked like models? There is a reason for wanting to look good, and shallow or not, I'd argue a large % of people on this site appreciate the influence their improved bodies give them with the opposite sex.

Now the part of Andi's point that I think is very valuable is the concept that there should be a psychological change. The problem is, for many who have been overweight and ostracized for any length of time, the scars are deep. Chronic shyness, low self-esteem, distorted body image, and other issues can plague people who are objectively attractive but have not healed their minds at the same pace they have improved their bodies; and that's something worth talking about imho.

Anyway, Vortex, great work and remember to tell yourself you are OK every now and then and watch this type of self-talk:

"To be honest, I still dont look that great with my shirt off. I've got loose skin on my abdomen, stretch marks and residual chest fat. I'll never be a mens health model thats for sure! I dont really feel comfortable showing a shot with my shirt off..."

You may think you are just being "honest" or "correct" but believe me, that's just a ruse for you to not feel as good about yourself as you deserve to. You look great and most importantly, you seem to have fundamentally changed your life for the better. Give yourself credit :).

Just another post to say "awesome" and "well done" :)

Uh, that looks sarcastic but I *do* mean it. It must take some willpower when you have a lot of weight to lose. Well done for sticking with it and improving your body (and face) image so much. Oh, and I know how you feel about the pics - I just can't face putting mine up until I've got where I want to get. Lastly to echo other comments, I'd love to see the pic that your ex-GF has. I can't believe I've missed this thread! Anyway, incredible job, man! That's keto-dieting for ya!

Of course, I've also noticed that women are much "friendlier" now than 6 months ago.

I think this is mostly because of my physical appearance, cause I've always been very confident, both the years when I was super-fit(duh!) but also the last 7 years. So I think Vortex definitely have a point there...

you really do look excellent vortex, as rfk said don't bullshit to yourself that you're not attractive with your shirt off etc - the stretchmarks fade (you can barely notice the ones on your arm) and loose skin goes away - regardless it should help you remember what kind of a struggle you've made and how much BETTER you are because of it. congratulations again.

also, not trying to be negative at all, but duckman in the photo of you in another thread you don't look all that super fit - in all honesty i think in your latest photos you have more mass and just a little bf to get rid of - keep it up!

No offence taken, but for the record, and as I said in that thread, that pic was taken in -94, and it wasn't before -95/96 I really started adding mass and loosing fat. I was measured by the doc in the army to 8% BF, and I was at 80 kg(176lbs) at that time.

I'm 79 kg (174lbs) now, and to get to 10% now, I have to get down to about 74kg (163lbs). 72(158lbs) for 8% BF...

ie I have lost about 8 kilos(17lbs) of lean mass over the last 7 years

I've been stalling in my loss recently. Got down to a low of 214 and bounced back up to 217 for over a week after just one cheat day!

I'm changing up my diet and lowering cals and fat a bit. I'm also completely eliminating extremely high cheat days. I'm still going to have occasional times where I have "high day" consisting of up to 3000cals, but it will be clean foods. No more huge binges of 5,000 calories for awhile. It sets me back too damn long :(

My current goal is to keep my cals at or below 2100/day and to keep my fat grams at or below 75grams/day(I was eating 90-100grams of healthy fats/day) I'm going to replace the fat cals with some complex carbs.

Hey guys thought I'd bump my thread after a long absence. I need some motivation. I've backslid quite a bit and I'm probably a good 40lbs above where I was in my transformed pics. Luckily, I didnt totally let myself go like before but MAN its SO HARD to get back on track. I've recently discovered a lot more about myself emotionally and spiritually so I hope this new knowledge and outlook will help me cope with my urge to overeat and be lazy. Its funny how tremendously better I feel when I eat right and exercise but how incredibly easy it is to NOT be healthy even when I know I'm cheating myself by doing it!

I did 45 minutes on the elliptical today and ate clean. I'm going out to eat tonight but I'm sticking to a lean steak and a salad. Pray for me people!!!!

Glaive

I know exactly what you mean. I had to take a couple of months off of all activity for medical reasons, and my diet kinda got compromised a bit. Just like you said, even though I know how awesome I feel when I work out and eat right, it's so damn easy to start living in the moment and eat like crap (or at least crappier).

This sounds retarded, I know, but one of the silly things I do to keep myself on track is to just replay "Eye of the Tiger" in my head over and over when I'm just doing normal stuff, especially if it's approaching workout time. I just visualize all those great cheesy training scenes from those movies (particularly III and IV) and try and get into that mentality of having something to overcome.

Rather than trying to just "not get fat" or "get in shape" I try and transform all of those bad habits and things I don't like about myself or how I've lived my life into a physical opponent, my own personal Apollo Creed that I have to conquer, and I can only do that by training and being the best I can.

Stupid and silly, I know, but it does a lot to get the ole' adrenaline flowing and get my butt into the gym.

I'm glad to here that you didn't back-slide all the way, and them some.....like so many people do. It is great that you kept yourself in check enough to only gain back 40lbs.

I understand about back-sliding. I've had my entire life to form my bad habits, and it is soooooo easy to let them take over. I just continuously strive to eliminate the old bad habits and replace them with new good habits. It is tough.

I'm sure you will lose that 40lbs + quickly and be feeling great again soon.

It's great you got back on track, I hope your new knowledge will only help you!

I understand about back-sliding. I've had my entire life to form my bad habits, and it is soooooo easy to let them take over. I just continuously strive to eliminate the old bad habits and replace them with new good habits. It is tough.

I hear you man!

As someone who was your weight once: congratulations. That's a hell of a way to come, and it feels wonderful. Enjoy that feeling; you earned it and deserve it.
