Now I wonder if theres any truth to this. Is it really possible to lose fat quicker during hotter weather than the colder seasons.. and if so, is it coincidental (better weather, more likely hood of getting up earlier, and less chance of going back to sleep unlike if it was a cold dark day, or maybe more time for students on summer hols to focus on diet and exercise).

Now im not gonna wait till summer before working out, just seeing what your views are. Is it really possible that your body will retain less fat (or burn more) solely on the weather???..

My guess is that there's a direct correlation between the warmer weather and being more active, thus burning more calories during the day and potentially staying leaner. I always find it easier to lose weight during the winte because there are less distractions.

I nearly always lose weight during hot weather/hot holidays, as being in the heat really blunts my appetite. Conversely, being cold makes me hungry, but I usually prefer being a bit too cool to a bit too hot.

As for how your body reacts, with raised temperature, all chemical reaction speed up, so more energy burned, but your body needs to burn less fuel to maintain its temperature (that's what the majority of our BMR is comprised of). Where that balance finally ends up, I have no clue I'm sorry to say.

Andrew.

i would have thought that the cold would have raised your metabolism to warm your body up though.

I think you burn more calories when it is colder. Check out this page

honestly I think it has more to do with our genetics and history (ancient history) that comes in to play in the winter... wwwwwwwwwwwwwway back in caveman day's we (humans) didn't have fur (like animals do) or central heating :p ... so we packed on layers of fat to keep us warm. Dispite the fact that we do have central heating now and we don't NEED the fat, our bodies still crave that natural warmth and we tend to unconsiously attempt to warm oursleves this 'natural' way despite it being unnecessary now (the holiday's don't help either). So just fight that urge to pack on the pounds and GET UP even if it's cold out and get your butt into the gym ;-)~
