exactly what they sound like...you hold dumbells in each hand, bend your knees (or squat...however you want to look at it) and jump into the air with the weight. it kicks you @$$ something fierce too...i do 3 sets of 8 w/30lb in each hand...feels like my heart is gonna explode when i'm done with em

Last reply was wrong..Squat thrusts and burpee jumps used by the british army, fantastic exercise you should use in a workout click the link http://news.bbc.co.uk/sportacademy/hi/sa/in_the_gym/exercises/newsid_2083000/2083710.stm

No, the reply was right. He was describing squat jumps. Squat thrusts are a different exercise.

i agree with swole, also i dont think a lot of people realize that if they exercise at their target heart rate then that is the point at which their bodies use fat for energy. Anything below or above your THR is burning muscle energy(not the actual muscle).

Agreed, but this gets into the whole HIIT/LISS argument we bat around way too much in here.

I guess the best way to state it would be thusly:

Diet and cardiovascular stimulus is the best path to adipose tissue reduction.

Whatever you do, do it conscientuously. Fat loss is academic at that point.

I tried to HAMMER this home like M.C. Hammer in baggy pants doing the Hammertime dance, but yet, some just aren't able to believe proven physiology/science, and still think that a caloric deficit is all that matters for FAT loss. (I didn't say weight loss, I said FAT as in BYE BYE fat, and Lean Mass, you stay PUT!)

The same people who have this reasoning also think that a calorie is a calorie, no matter what macronutrient it's from.

Those two AREAS are why my business is so successful. I stress both areas until people GET IT.

:D

Sorry, just had to get that out!!!

This is really true. Cutting calories isn't the primary catalyst for pure fat loss. It's what calories you reduce and what kinds you take in. :tu:

I knew some smarty pants would say this. He specifically asked about exercise.

The thing is though, Swole has a lot of truth behind what he posted. You can run and run and run and lift all you want, but if you want to see fat loss results, your diet has to be in check. It's #1. That and rest at second, and THEN comes your cardio/weight routine at #3.

I know for years that I would work out 6 days a week (both cardio and weights) and see very little fat loss but a lot of LBM loss... because I thought exercising enough would compensate for an average diet. Then last fall I got on track with a proper diet, and now fat loss is pretty textbook despite what a lot of moaners and groaners want to tell you about how genetics hold them back from a fit body.

That, and I got educated by the Swole School of Knowledge on how great moderate cardio can be :tu:

That might be so, but that's now what he asked.

As for that post; id stick to anything that keeps your hearrate at a steady elevated level. It helps if you dont hate the specific excersice (;

I'm a swimmer, I love swimming, and I appreciate it getting mentioned every now and then, but "breat stroke swimming" isn't even the best fat-burning stroke, let alone exercise.
