I know I have seen this covered somewhere before, don't know if it was this forum or another, so I am sorry if this is a repeat question. (I did do a search before I asked, and did not find specific enough info to satisfy me.)

My question is this: Is it optimal to mix creatine, whey, and glutamine all together in one shake? I personally was doing this before for about a week, until I read somewhere that it is bad to mix creatine with milk. (not sure why) Anyway, now I am mixing just the whey and glutamine with skim milk, and then creatine with juice (normally apple or grape). My problem with this is that I am having to take a lot more "shakes" during the day (4 separate vs 2 combined) and I am starting to skip sometimes due to hectic schedule, family, etc. I do not want to slow my progress by being inconsistent. So in short, is it ok to mix the three together, and if so, do i need to make sure that I don't use the skim milk due to the creatine? And if I can't mix the creatine with milk, what sugar/carb liquid do I need to mix with it to make sure it gets carried to the muscle tissue if any. Sorry if this sounds confusing, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I asked to the guy from kentnutrition in a thread about this a while ago and he told me that he personally mixes whey, glutamine, creatine and dextrose all together in the same shake. That was good enough for me!

I am not familiar with dextrose. I am assuming this could be the sugar/carb I was referring to earlier to mix with it for "upload" into the muscle tissue? Is "dextrose" something you purchase separately, or is he referring to juices and such as "dextrose"? Hate to sound stupid... :d_frown:

No problem, dextrose is a very simple carb that people take post workout. It's recommended to mix it 2g:1g with whey protein (2g dextrose to 1g whey). Volumewise, they are equivalent. In other words, if you use 1 scoop of whey, use 1 scoop of dextrose to get the 2:1 ratio. Dextrose can be purchased from kentnutrition.com (see banner at top of page).

I greatly appreciate the quick response! One last question: Do I mix the creatine/whey/glutamine/dextrose shake with water?

I think that's best... it's not horrible if you don't but mixing with water is best.

One other thing, if you do get Kent's glutamine, it is notoriously hard to mix in water. To get the whole thing to dissolve better, put all of the powders in your cup, mix the powders up, then mix in your water. I just use a blender, though... I don't put up with lumps in my shakes!

If you can't do that then mix all the powders in a water bottle and add them to the water/milk/juice right before you drink it. You could use a plastic baggy or a little plastic screw top container (check REI) to hold the powders. Theres a ton of different kind of water bottles out there but I like Nalgenes. Thats my $0.02 yeah I dump it all into a Nalgene and throw it in my gym bag, fill 'er up at the cold water fountain after my workout and gurgle it down on the way home. this is the only way I found to get that fermented-vomit glutamine peptide stuff to mix up well. yeugh.

sheesh, I have three Nalgenes now...

odd, i find the kent nutrition dex to mix awesomely with water and whey. i add the powder after the water, doing powder before water gives clumps like there's no tomorrow.

but i just started adding this stuff to the nalgene, which works GREAT to shake it all up. and i love that choco-minty taste the remnants give the water on the next refill :D
