I'm in the market for a power rack and this one caught my eye:

http://www.newyorkbarbell.com/92563.html

It's not as heavy duty as the one John has but it's $100 cheaper and I doubt I'll ever be using super heavy weights. I just need something to make squats and bench presses easier and safer. Anyone out there have this rack? If so, do you like it or would you recommend another?

I'm also looking at this bench from the same place:

http://www.newyorkbarbell.com/99965.html

It seems like it would go well in a power rack.

I have been purchasing my equipment from New York Barbbells for about a year now, and I can assure you that TDS (the brand they most prominently stock) is quality equipment. The power rack you're looking at is the one I am planning on adding to my gym. I have not used it myself, but the track record of the company (for me) is enough for me to give the purchase the go ahead (especially with the incentive of free S&H).

The bench should be a no brainer. A bench, by and large, is a bench. Free S&H, has all three settings (incline, decline, flat), and a fair price. I'd go for it if I were you.

I purchased the "power rack system" from newyorkbarbells last fall for my home gym setup, including the plate loaded lat pulldown/low pulley attachment. I am very pleased with the quality for the price (I guess that's called value). I had a small problem when I was assembling it and their service was great, I talked directly with one of their engineers who was able to help me over the phone. Great selection of equipment at great prices.

I bought a Hoist incline/decline bench locally, which was quite a bit more expensive, but seriously heavy duty.

You can't go wrong with a good power rack and bench combo, it is definitely worth the investment to be able to work out spot free.

Hehehe, talk about timing... I was just looking at a few options.. I liked these, so I got the set. Free freight shipping too, not bad. I'm not in to driving to New York, given the current weather headaches. (even though its only a 3 or 4 hour drive from beautiful Harrisburg PA) :jumping:

I'm looking into buying a power rack & adjustable bench. It's between these power racks.

Power Rack $349.00
http://store.yahoo.com/homegym/powracsys.html

NY Barbells POWER RACK $259.99
http://www.newyorkbarbells.tv/92563.html

NY Barbells SUPER POWER RACK $349
http://www.newyorkbarbells.tv/92551.html

The SUPER POWER RACK & the Power Rack are both the same price, but the Power Rack($349.00) seems to have more to offer. If I talk to NY Barbells and tell them I'm interested in the SUPER POWER RACK but this Power Rack($349.00) over here is the same price and has more to offer. I might be able to get the price lower... The NY Barbells POWER RACK is $100 less than the Power Rack($349.00). The NY Barbells POWER RACK doesn't look to have as many holes has the Power Rack($349.00). Would it be better to just cough up the extra $100 for the Power Rack($349.00)?

Off power racks... I need a bench. I'm looking for an adjustable flat, incline, decline bench w/ leg extension like the Utility Bench John has. John said he got the bench for $199.00. At the link the bench is listed at $229.00. Did the price go up? If so, that really sucks, I would have jumped on that... I don't know... Does anyone know of a good quality bench like that for a reasonable price?

Thanks

It's a new design (http://www.powertecfitness.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PF&Product_Code=P-UB&Category_Code=StrengthLine)! I'm sure that's the reason for the price increase. It's much improved, as far as I can tell; looks like you'll be able to get a greater angle of decline with the new bench, and there are probably other improvements, too.

If you want the old one I'll sell it to ya for $199.00 and I'll get the new one. ;)

Even at $229.00 this bench is a steal...

Check out this site. I found it today but looks like I will have to wait until Monday to verify if the bench for $179 with free shipping actually matches the photo. The model number on the Powertec site is P-UB. The model on the above link is P-UB-N. The $179 is a really good deal so I would call to make sure what you see is what you get. I did find the bench John uses for $199 at www.afitnessequipment.com it has a model # P-UB as well but appears to be discontinued for the new mode.

I just got the $259 NY Barbells POWER RACK and, indeed, it probably has more holes than the others - 28 numbered holes to be exact. It would appear that the picture on the website may be out of date. This is a great rack and is quite sturdy - highly recommended. :tucool: I can't imagine needing anything sturdier unless you plan on squatting Olympic record weights. :claplow:

Free Ground Shipping In Continental USA
Price: $ 179.99

If this is still going, I'm going to jump on this! Nice find!
I like this model.

rboit, the power rack you got, does it have dip bars, and does it have a chin up bar? I think you can buy the dip bars to put on and I think the bar at top in front is a chin up bar? I'm still looking around...

Yes it does come with the front chin up bar. I believe you can get dip bar attachments but I didn't order them. I have a bad shoulder so I'm going to avoid the dips. ;)

Yes, there's plenty of room for a bench. There are plenty of holes in the rack. In fact, there are 28 holes spaced out over about 54" or one hole about every 2".

I own the power rack you are referring to. It is perfectly designed and can definitely support a lot of weight. I would personally go with their commercial version of the same rack, assumming that money is not an issue, but their racks are the best out there in my opinion. I hang my safety squat bar in the rack, and use powerhooks. Additionally, the rack is great for pullups. I can't imagine life without this important piece of equipment.

Good Luck!
