On days that i workout, i was wondering if i can take a whey shake before i workout (1 hour) and then one after i work out? or is it alright to take a shake as my last meal of the day after workout? i was wondering this because i wanted to know if i'm getting benefits taking them right after another. or it does not matter how apart i'm taking them as long as i'm getting sufficient protein for the day and before i work out?

edit: i read somewhere that our bodies can only take about 30g of protein every 4 hours? is this right?

my family eats a lot of food at night and sometimes i can't keep myself from eating as much as them too, so i would like to take a whey shake instead.

hope i'm making sense... :d_redface thanks.

Yes, but make sure it is not just the whey in the shake. Add carbs, maybe a bit of fat pre-workout and carbs post workout.

Getting the protien in asap after you weighttrain is very important. (with high gi carbs as well)

I take a shake before i go to bed everynight too, but i cant remember the reason behind it.

is taking 3 shakes a day bad? 1 maybe for breakfast, 1 after workout, and 1 before i sleep??? i heard it's bad for the liver and kidneys...

You can take a protein shake whenever you want, but you want to make sure you don't take too much protein at one time. (I try to limit myself to 30 g of protein every three hours)

As long as you don't take too much protein, you won't hurt your kidneys and/or liver.

This applies to all types of protein, not just shakes.

So...if you enjoy drinking the shakes, then by all means. Most people prefer eating regular food vs drinking liquid shakes 24/7.

oooh. alright, thanks. i dont really prefer drinking shakes either, but have to limit myself at 2000 calories, and the shakes help me do it, especially when i can't always eat 6 whole meals a day.
