right i started my fitness plan 3 weeks ago today.

First week lost 6 lbs, second week lost 5.5 lbs and this week lost 2.5 lbs.
but my body fat has remained at 40%.

so by my calculations i have gone from

40% of 289 = 115.6 lbs of fat in my body.
40% of 275 = 110 lbs of fat in my body.

so in three weeks I have lost 5.6 lbs of fat, its a little worrying that i have lost another 8.4 lbs of something elese.

do you think its just water, should i be worried?

i am drinkng around a gallon of water a day. (just rembered uk gallon in 4.45 litres)

just had i thought my bf is told to me by my bathroom scales, maybe these are wrong.

At such high% BF I wouldn't worry too much IF you are eating decently. I don't even mean calorie wise, but getting enough protein and essential fats.

Different methods for measuring body fat percentage have varying degrees of accuracy. One good way to do it I read about on John's site is to do 3 of them: scale, calipers, and another source (website to calculate bf%) and average them. Anyway, it is an estimate at best. I wish I had gone to a doctor or something when I started to get a baseline. I might do this wehn I reach my goal weight.

Like NEdge said, probably nothing to worry about now, and it is possible that it is water weight that you lost due to the fact that you are eating clean now, and you are drinking more water. Keep an eye on your measurements those tell part of the story too. Not only that, but pictures are a great progress tracking device.

You could use all of these to help keep you motivated it works for me!

Also, if accurate, 5lbs of fat in 3 weeks is very good, the max you should try to lose (safely) while on a clean diet is 2 lbs per week, so you are right up there!

Just remember that losing weight is not the same as losing fat.

I don't think those scales that are supposed to tell you your body fat work worth a damn. We have one at the house and it's usually around off by 10% or so (ie: my true body fat was 15% at one point but the scale said it was around 24 or 25%)... use calipers, and if you don't think you can do the measurements correctly, have a trainer or a doctor do it for you, it will be much closer to the truth
