View Full Version : Fasted Cardio, but not in the am? Dirty Bulk... what?
Benjammin Mon, January 24th, 2005, 01:06 AM Hey guys, I have school at 7 am everyday mon - fri. So i was wondering, since im up til 10 or 11 everynight that if I stopped eating after 6pm that I could do my cardio at 9 or 10pm. Is that enough time to achieve the effect of running in the morning right after I wake up? Of course, I would only run on my non lifting days, so basically every other day.
Second question, I have heard john say and talk about a "dirty bulk" is this where you just eat everything in sight not caring about what you look like, just to gain muscle. and then after about a month or so they cut massivly to get ready for competition? do any of you reccomend this. my friend just calls it an excuse to not eat healthy until cutting season. your thoughts?
thanks
don_1987 Mon, January 24th, 2005, 01:22 AM Doing fasted cardio may be beneficial for fat loss, but it doesn't mean that it's the only way to lose fat. Now, you've mentioned that you're awake until 10-11 PM, so why would you stop eating at 6 PM? It may also trigger late night binge because you're so hungry that you'll eventually eat everything in site... (not a good idea, since you'll be sleeping).
So I suggest that you do your cardio anytime you can, without having to be on a fasted state. I think it is still beneficial for fat loss.
About dirty bulking though, I would have to agree with your friend that it is just an excuse to eat unhealthy. Look at John, he stick to a clean bulk and still have a good body, but if you were to eat everthing in site, I guess you'll orobobly put up more fat than muscle, so when you cut, it still doesn't look good...
Benjammin Mon, January 24th, 2005, 01:31 AM Thanks, the reason I said I would stop eating at around 6pm is so that i wouldnt have any food in my stomach, making it a fasted cardio session at night. Thanks for the relpy.
don_1987 Mon, January 24th, 2005, 03:38 AM Yes, I did understand that the reason you want to stop eating at 6 PM is because you wanted to do the fasted cardio. But I think it isn't neccesary to do so, like most people said, fitness should be made part of your life. So it is "natural" for people to do fasted cardio in the morning because they just wake up and automatically they are fasted, but in your case, you're doing more harm to your body than benefit.
I would guess that you're still a teenager right? So I think everday life can be your cardio. Remember, cardio isn't just on a cardio machine, you can include cardio in your life by walking, taking the stairs, playing sports etc... good luck :gl:
Chameleon Mon, January 24th, 2005, 09:25 AM I heard the best adivice ever this past weekend regarding cardio... do it 'when you can' not when you think you should. I would suggest waiting at least an hour after one of your meals before doing your cardio, partly so you don't get a side stitch, and partly so that most of the food in stomach will be digested already... it's better to get your cardio in 'when you can', than to not get it in at all ;-)
