My wife is a gourmet chef and we're thinking something special for Super Bowl Sunday. The main course is a surprise but I insisted on LEMON SQUARES for dessert!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :tu:
:)
akm3 Mon, January 24th, 2005, 12:31 AM I want the Eagles to win, because they are my favorite team.
However, I think the patriots are going to roll over them like an iceberg over the Titanic.

Is this supposed to be a stab at me cuz I didn't watch todays game so that my voodoo ball will be fresh and healthy for a Pats loss in 2 weeks! hehe!! Just teasing but...
Lets go ANYONE BUT THE PATRIOTS, PISTONS, KNICKS, AND PURDUE!!!!!
I think T.O. is my least favorite player in the NFL (He should learn a thing or two from the Marvin Harrison..and even the Pats for cryin' out loud!) but I hope he returns and absolutely dominates the Patriots. Even if I have to suffer through 5 T.O. touchdown dances with Sharpie pens, cell phones, pom-pons, and whatever else there is, as long as the Patriots lose I'll be happy.
Some folks say "Hey, if your team gets beat wouldn't you want the team that beat them to win a championship so that you got beat by the best?"
To that I say: "My season's over, now I'm just out for revenge!"

c'mon man, Moss is WAY MORE of a scumbag than T.O. ever will be. And for the record, when you're at the top everyone wants to see you fall. T.O. is cocky sure, but he has full license to do so. Even if he played for a different team i'd still love the guy.
akm3, at first thought I had the same fear, untill I saw the defense just explode these past few games, even if the Birds go down its gonna be a dog fight, the odds are always against Philly if for no other reason PHilly fans are the MOST hated fans across all the sports therefore everyone wants to see our teams decimated.
The Pats are a well oiled machine, cyborg like even, but they've had their time in the limelight, its Eagles time now.
ltz Mon, January 24th, 2005, 01:45 PM I want the Patriots to win and I believe they have a good shot at taking the title again.

Moss is a scumbag just like Lewis, but he's not a showboat. I can handle thugs and scumbags, but I have no patience for showboating (sorry,b ut this includes you too Dieon!). If a showboat player came to Indy he'd be booed!
Philly fans are the most hated because they're the worst fans! If I were A.I. and someone booed me I'd be like "You wanna get out here and see if you can do any better???" Thats just disgraceful...

Are you attempting to say that T.O. is a better reciever than Moss?? Talent wise, I dont see T.O. competing with Moss at all... But then again neither of them are man enough to really go across the middle.
badgolfer Tue, January 25th, 2005, 03:07 PM Pats or Eagles. i have nothing against either time but I am not a fan of either. i kind of like both a little. ill be rooting for the eagles for three reasons. I find TOs antics commical, i like to see new teams win on a regular basis(only the giants are allowed to win every superbowl), and they are in the giants division.
slush_puppy Tue, January 25th, 2005, 03:27 PM The big question is, "What will Paul McCartney do to top Janet Jackson's halftime show..." :D
ShadowPenguin Wed, January 26th, 2005, 08:32 AM Are you attempting to say that T.O. is a better reciever than Moss??
thats absolutely what i'm saying....and that Moss is a bigger scumbag :p
Naytch Wed, January 26th, 2005, 09:13 AM I'm all for the Eagles! Let the Vegas Sports books up the odds. That means I'll win more money! Go Birds!!!
never2old Fri, January 28th, 2005, 04:06 PM Just 2 cents (not betting!): Pats, by 2 TDs or more. Neither's a fave, but I lean Eagles 'cause sports dynasties are a turn-off to me.
bps1999 Fri, January 28th, 2005, 05:06 PM Felt the need to rant about this:
Whats the deal with people accusing TO of stealing headlines by announcing he's gonna play? The same people that make these accusations are the same people that make the headlines. The dude just wants to play. If sportswriters dont want all the pre-superbowl talk to be all about TO, then feel free to talk about something else... its your own choice.
seoulnewfie Sat, January 29th, 2005, 03:31 AM Last 4 Super Bowls I have had to watch taped on Monday night because they are played in the morning here while I have to work. This year we have the day off! :claphigh:
This is the 1st time I am not sure who to cheer for.
In NE you have a very efficient team that is extremely professional and always gets the job done. Brady is a superstud when the game is on the line! You got to like a team with class and grit that plays hard every down of every game.
In Philly you have what I would think are some of the best fans in the world! They deserve this more than the players IMO. But the team are a bunch of egos all packaged nicely together. Can't say I am a fan of egos myself.
Who to cheer for....reward for great fans or reward for great professionals???
NE 17 PHI 9
Bonus prediction: T.O. does more damage playing hurt than good for Philly.
never2old Sun, January 30th, 2005, 09:45 AM Seoulnewfie, did you see that Monday night game between Miami and NE? Brady threw this ridiculous pass on 3rd down while he was being chased and on the verge of being sacked. NE was backed-up deep in their own territory, and time was on their side. Of course the pass was picked! Miami won a squeaker.
I won't argue with you that Brady is a terrifying QB almost any day; he always seems to know exactly what to do to get the job done. But on that night, he was the opposite of stud. I actually stared at the TV and got mad at him after that INT, mad enough to feel a flush to my face. I don't remember the last time I got mad like that! Then, I calmed down briefly, and then I got even madder.
I figured: NO NFL QB worth playing one down on the field is stupid enough to throw a pass like that! He was either being amateurishly cocky, or he totally lost control of the ball as he threw it, or the game was being fixed. When I calmed down finally, I could not shake the suspicion that it was a fix. In which case, I don't know whom to respect more, or who to be disgusted with. Maybe Brady wanted to "throw" that game, and mess-up the oddsmakers. Maybe some oddsmakers and Brady had it worked out. Maybe someone pro-Miami bribed someone else. Well, enough paranoia; it was just an absolutely baffling thing to me, for Brady to THROW in that situation. NE could lose the Super Bowl if Brady goofs like that. But I am not counting on that...

Yeah, saw that game. He was certainly not at his best. For the record I (being a Niners fan) would take Montana over any QB! :D

Sorry, this is too emotional of a topic for me to talk about rationally at this point. During the season, I could talk about the players and injuires and our true chances. Even in the playoffs, I could talk logically about the games while still rooting all the way.
But now, the Eagles are in the superbowl. The base instinct only to cheer and wish and hope has taken hold. The first time since 1981, which I don't remember because I was 4. I don't think people have any idea what this means to the fans of Philadelphia. We love are sports teams, and no championship has been brought to the city since the Sixers in 1983, which I don't remember because I was 6.
We love our teams, whether they suck or not. And when they suck we gave them serious tough love and let them know they suck. There is no such thing as a fare weather fan in Philly (even literally, our winters are horrible and the summers are brutle).
Go Eagles!!!!!
ShadowPenguin Tue, February 1st, 2005, 11:38 AM Sorry, this is too emotional of a topic for me to talk about rationally at this point.
EXACTLY, people dont understand why we talk about this as passionatly as we do, and its because as people have stated time and time again THERE ARE NO FANS LIKE PHILLY FANS!!
Tucker Tue, February 1st, 2005, 06:59 PM "I think T.O. is my least favorite player in the NFL (He should learn a thing or two from the Marvin Harrison.."
Totaly agree. I love Harrison, went to college with him - he was the nicest guy...along with McNabb.
That said, gotta go with my Pats. They are reinventing the way that NFL francises are run.
GO PATRIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ShadowPenguin Sat, February 5th, 2005, 09:03 AM 33 HOURS AND COUNTING!!!!!!!
This place is literally about to explode, I was walking back from a clients office in Wilmington, Delaware yesterday morning and I was wearing my full Eagles gear, strangers on the street passing me wearing the same thing just start talking to me, some guys yelling across the street JACKSONVILLE!!! Then i get back to my office to handle some clients in Philly and everywhere I went people just going ape shit. Every call I had to handle was ridiculous, its like people were just loopy all day.
I think Philly may very well be the only city in which the Friday before a big game you can come to work in jeans, Team Jerzey and gear, meet with a CEO of any random company and its completely acceptable....chances are said CEO has an Eagles banner in their office.
YA'LL READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?!?!?!?
gravityhomer Sat, February 5th, 2005, 10:40 AM That sounds awesome. Wish I could be there. Definitely less fans here in New Orleans. Today we are going out in full eagles ware. Hats, jersey, green, silver and black beads. And of course, eagles beads.
Man I can't wait. We're going to have to find some cheesesteaks for tomorrow.
EAGLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love when I hear so many people say that Philly fans are the worst in sports. These people are only going by what the media spoon feeds them. Ad nauseum we hear how snowballs were thrown at Santa Claus (back in 1968), that we throw batteries, boo our iconic players, cheering Michael Irvin's neck injury, the in-stadium courtroom & jail... and who can forget the infamous booing of Donovan McNabb at the draft.
The media LOVES to portray Philly fans as the missing link in human evolution. They love reporting the nasty incidents of the fans. Why? Because ugly incidents = ratings.
Case in point: I am a huge Flyers fan (you know, that defunct league). I was at the game when Mario Lemieux returned from a long battle with Hodgkins disease. Mario is a HATED player, the opposition, the devil incarnate. Yet during the pregame warmup as soon as he became visible in the tunnel the Philly fans erupted into a standing ovation. Fans were coming out of the concourse to see what was going on, and ended up standing in the tunnel ways chanting "MAR-EEE-OHHH... MAR-EEE-OHHH". The ovation lasted the entire warmup, or about 10 minutes. When he took the ice for his first shift in the game, again an ovation.
When I got home, I turned on ESPN, expecting a heartwarming report. Instead I got a full length report of Mario's return, with no mention of the ovation. Why? It doesn't fit the mold of Philly fans, so don't report it. Ironically, when questioned about his most memorable moment, Mario cited the unexpected ovation in Philadelphia in his top 5.
The fact is that many, MANY athletes who play in this city end up living here permanently. We Philadelphians are extremely passionate, and extremely loyal. There is no way to define who the "best fans" are, but I doubt you will ever hear any player who has gone through the City of Brotherly Love ever say there are better fans elsewhere - even Michael Irvin.
I realize this is off-topic on the Superbowl subject, but then again it's not. The energy in this city and its surrounding suburbs is something to behold. We, the fans, deserve this win... batteries, snowballs, booing, and all.

Prediction: Eagles 24. Patriots 19.
stewpick Sun, February 6th, 2005, 04:43 PM ok guys, i know how serious americans take the NFL, but you should try watching a good standard rugby league, it is a awesome sport with a little hint of NFL in it, try it men you will enjoy it and never wana stop watching it.

THERES ALWAYS NEXT YEAR.
Enjoy your dynasty NE.
ThatOldGuy Sun, February 6th, 2005, 10:57 PM The Eagle's clock management was somewhat baffling. I'd be livid if I were an Eagle fan.

Look at the last 2 Superbowls that the Pats won. Did you expect anything else?
Indianchap Mon, February 7th, 2005, 05:37 PM what was going through andy reid's mind at the end? I mean I can understand mcnabb (he looked physically exhausted) but the coach ???
ShadowPenguin Tue, February 8th, 2005, 07:59 AM Look at the last 2 Superbowls that the Pats won. Did you expect anything else?
YES GOD DAMNIT! As a philly fan you always brace for the worst, but you also have a little somthing called FAITH in your team. These guys looked superb all season (minus the ass whoopin Pittsburg gave us) and all thru the game on Sunday even though all the mistakes the birds made they STILL kept the Pats to a 3 point lead....and for a team of that calibar that says something.
Just because the Pats won their last 2 Super Bowls means exactly jack shit. EVERY SINGLE TEAM THAT HAS EVER ONE MULTIPLE SUPER BOWLS HAS ONE THING IN COMMON.....they all had to, at one time or another, win their FIRST one before they can become a "dynasty" or wutever the hell they are calling it. And not every team to win a super bowl has been the favorite every time.
Any other team in the league that would have made as many mistakes as we did on Sunday against the Pats would have got RAILED on like the Pats vs. Steelers game.....a 3 point margin says a lot for our coaching staff and team as a whole.
ONE TEAM, ONE CITY, ONE DREAM,...(unfortunatly) ONE MORE YEAR.
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kino Tue, February 8th, 2005, 10:50 AM I meant it more as, the last two Superbowls that they won were only by a field goal. Neither of them were by more than 3 points as well. Personally, I don't follow sports, because I get discusted with myself if I sit in front of the tv for more than an hour or so. I was in bed at 8:30-9:00pm on Sunday... No matter who won the game, it wasn't going to effect my life.
gravityhomer Tue, February 8th, 2005, 11:19 AM Man, that game was so close. But there was a point when we ended two drives in the first half with turnovers. We got away with it with out any points for the patriots and then we ended up scoring first. But I just knew, that you can't do that and come out on top. You can't give up the oppurtunity to get points like that. The patriots did not play a perfect game, but they mde way fewer mistakes than the eagles.
Mcnabb was jittery early. You could tell from the high passes, duck passes. Oh those back to back interceptions, one overturned by a penalty were killers. My honest opinion was that we downright lost rather than the patriots won. I know a good team can make you do that, but I felt that a lot of our mistakes were not caused by the patriots. Both teams were making mistakes on offense, and the eagles just made a few too many.
I'm proud of how the Eagles played. Individual mistakes can happen, they dealt with it and I don't think they gave up. I am a little more baffled at some of the coaching mistakes, which just shouldn't happen. I couldn't understand why Reid stuck with the run so many times when it was just going nowhere. And the clock management at the end of both the half and the game was ridiculous. I read a quote that they didn't want to go no huddle because it limits your scope. Yeah and not doing it really limits your chance to win. You have to go to the two minute drill, to give your players a chance to win. As a coach you have to give your players every possible chance to win. Go to the two-minute drill, just throw 10-15 yard passes down the field every play, maybe throw in a screen, how hard is that? what is there to discuss in the huddle? The oppurtunity that Reid gave his players to win, was to go 95 yds in 46 seconds, thanks.
With respect to the patriots fans I have two things to discuss.
1) Those yelling dynasty right now, should think about who you are putting yourselves in league with. I can think of another dynasty that kept the red sox down for so many years. Oh how quickly you guys turn to the other side. Philadelphia fans don't even know what the word dynasty means (literally in some cases). Never won a superbowl and haven't won a championship in any sport in over 20 years. Yet our fans are known league wide in every sport, that says something about our fans. We don't need championships to love our team.
2) I live in Boston. I have one thing to say to any Boston folk who try to give me a hard time. Guess what, it's not the "Boston Patriots". It's the New England Patriots. What the hell is New England? New England includes like 6 states. The fan base for your football team is spread over a fifth of the country. Why? Aren't the fans in Boston good enough to support a team on there own? People in Bangor Maine, root for your team.
But, I don't hate the patriots team. They played well, they deserved to win.
