Okay, so, Rocky III was on TV today and I watched it in it's entirety, and I must say, It's phenomenal. (IMHO) But, my question is: How did Sylvester Stallone get to look like his character Rocky Balboa in Rocky III? His midsection is so extremely thick, and built, just rippling with muscles.. obliques especially. And his pecs aren't huge, but ripped, and he's just built like a tank. I've looked all over for information on this like his workout plan or anything, but found none, so any help would be great. Again, how did Sylvester Stallone get to look like Rocky, his workout/eating/training, in Rocky III? Thanks.

If any of you find this, I'm in great appreciation.

Rocky III is about contemporaneous with Rambo. I did hear a rumor once that, in training for Rambo, Stallone ate almost nothing but tuna fish for quite a while.

Just a rumor, of course. I'd be interested in hearing what anybody else has to say.

Steroids is what I heard. He has started selling his "secrets". I think there were ads in Men's fitness mag. Steroids or not, he did a great job on his body.

Another case of "don't go for his body, create your own!".

I'll be the first to say that there are many celebrity "frames" I admire (more female than male ;) but there are some guys' physiques that I use as examples to remind me of why I get outta bed at 5am).

Look up all you can about a guy named Vince Gironda. His principles, or variants thereof, are what many celebrities from the 70's and 80's utilized as training programs. It's remarkable how similar they are to many training principles we all use today, it's just that they weren't very well known and didn't have the backing of multi-million dollar nutritional companies and fitness gurus. Some of his training methods were also considered bizarre (some that really were bizarre, and some that became training standards, but at the time were misunderstood or not studied for the results).

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack as much as I did.

Rocky III is one of the most memorable films from my childhood. It put Mr. T on the map, though today he's a joke and questionable as a celeb, back then, his star - if you were a little kid, you wanted to grow up to be big and strong like him. His star was rising and Rocky was one of the most talked about films/series of the day. I love all the Rocky films... there's a DVD collection I need to go looking for.

Yup, I was reading an interview with carl weathers about the Rocky films and he used to say they basically do tons of cardio and starve themselves to get shredded for the fight scenes. Also said they only maintained those physiques for as long as it took to film the shirtless parts, and then they did the rest of the movie. Said there was no way they could maintain that shape for a full 90 day shoot.

So I wasn't the only guy with TNT on all day yesterday? Sheesh, I have the DVD box set right here, and still had the Rocky marathon on yesterday. :)

Yes, he looks incredible in that movie. I still think Hulk Hogan looked better!!! :D

Well, the first three Rocky's are good, but the last two movies in my opinion were lame.... I won't own those. I do however have I-III on DVD.

SLy weighed 163 pounds for the final fight vs. CLubber. So there ain't no way he was on steroids. You can find a bunch of info about his training and diet on his website sylvesterstallone.com, it was there about 2 years ago, don't know if it still there. As for the tuna thing, it is true, along with gobs and gobs of water. :tu:

On top of stallone and Mr T, I've always admired Carl Weathers' physique. His upper body in this pic is close to what I'm going for (I'm not after too much mass). He just needed to do a bit more work on his quads.
