I'm a dumbell guy. I started with a $20 set of Wal-Mart dumbells and have been adding additional weight plates. With about 55 lbs. on the dumbell the bar is full. And the plastic screw on collars are loosening a little some times.
I am looking for a better quality dumbell bar that will hold a little more weight and will be a little more sturdy. But I don't want to buy a bunch of fixed weight bells. Any suggestions?

I use a pair of spinlock handles($20 for the pair from dicks sporting goods) for my lower weight exercises(they can hold 80 lbs no problem). then i got a pair of olympic handles ($60 for the pair at dicks or dunhams) and they can handle just about any amount you want. these two pairs take care of all my needs. drawbacks: taking time to change weight plates: youll need olympic plates for the olympic handles. still, much cheaper than buying fixed (or hex) dumbbells, especially when some of those wont even get used as you progress. BEWARE--wal-mart sells olympic bars and dumbbells( golds gym brand). they are cheap, but cheaply made.
