I'm looking to get a treadmill for somebody and would like to spend at most $500. Most reviews I've found have been negative for these "budget" treadmills, with remarks such as low reliability, bad shock absorbtion, small running area, loud, etc.
Does anybody have a budget treadmill that they really like? Maybe one that is as good as a gym's? Or do I have to raise my spending limit for a decent one?
Thanks.

I know a good one, it has programmable shock absorption, ALOT of running area, and best of all it's in your price range.

OK, thanks for joking guys, but some people are busy all day and when they are not busy (at night), they live in a neighborhood that is not very safe to run in.
Please help if you have some good input. There is a lot of discussion on elliptical machines, which could merit the same response from the people above. Why get an elliptical when you can go running? Why don't you thread-cr*p on the other posts for any cardio machine? Cuz running on the streets is the best, of couse.

an elliptical is a lot like running your right, but it is low impact so you knees dont take the beating that they do when you run.
