I figure we could maybe post a little info on ourselves and a couple of pics. Im thinking the winner should be decided for overall wight loss. The official challenge start could be on Monday the 24th and run until April 18th.
Maybe we could have a progress update with pics weekly or bi-weekly whatever you guys prefer. Let me know! :gl:

I guess I'll start with a little about me. I am currently 285 ( 282 at home gym..lol) at 6 ft tall and am 23 years old. I started changing my eating habits this last Monday and have started going back to the gym. In the last 2 years I have picked up about 50 extra pounds. I used to work out religiously every night before getting together with my fiancé. I was there at least 6 days a week and I was weighing around 235. I didn’t diet. I had a horrible diet eating anything I wanted but since I worked out never had any additional weight gain. I by no means was skinny. I could have used to lose 25 or 30 lbs then. Anyway since I have been with her I have pretty much stopped working out. With that I plan on starting fasted am cardio in the morning during the week and lifting and doing a 3 day weight training split. I'm still working on getting my diet together.

My AIM screen name is quickstang22.

Hi guys, i would love to join in this challage if people don't mind the though of not wanting to let you guys will push me to do that extra rep when my arms are ready to fall off. Well here's a bit about me. I was around 230 lbs for ages and then i was involved in a car accident and as a result had a compressed vertbria (sp??) and a twisted lower lumber and became very inactive, my canoeing, kayaking and biking stoped and i put over 60 lb and then with chirstmas and everything i had become 289 lb and i got fed up with myself and the last straw was when i went to buy a football shirt (soccer) and bought the biggest size they had and it was XXL and the thing was to small.

as i thought thats it and begain my transformation, bined all the cholate and re-joined the gym.

any how heres my stats.

hieght = 6' 2"
weight = 277 lbs

Measurements as of 04/01/2005
Waist 47.5 inchs
Hips 42.5 inchs
Forearm 12 inches
Wrist 7.5 inches
Arm (stright and cold) 13.5 inches
Thigh 26 inchs
Calf 16 inchs
Chest 52 inchs

(i will install aol im when i get time and will post my user name A sap) I think a bi-weekly update will be enough.

Well, I'm signing on to this challenge also.

I've been big since birth and my poor eating habits while growing up surely didn't help. I know that people are trying to get back to that size they had while in high school.....but damn I was huge then. At my highest I was clocking at 310 at about 5'7". I was going thru my old files and saw a video I did for class during my senior and was tooken a back about it.
Well during the summer of 2002 I decided to make a change. Went ahead and jumped on a diet plan. From June to September I dropped from 310 to 256. I was just loving all the people saying, "wow you look good, what happened?" . Well, I may have gotten smaller...but I was still the same shape. I was at the same body fat %. So that sucked.
So here we are in January 2005. I'm at 279 (as of monday) and 5'9".
I'm ready to get started with my new life.

I am in as well. Most of my info is over in my thread in the Fitness Journal forum. I am currently 302 and actually started seriously last week. I have had a couple of mediocre days already and hopefully this will keep me faithful and focused to the plan. My biggest hurdle is actually getting back into a workout rhythm. I have actually already dropped from 380 to 287, but I am back up again to 302. Bleck. Good luck all.

Yeah! Count me in. It's time for me to join as well. I'm 253 (started gaining weight when I moved out due to being lazy). I had gotten myself down to 194 then stress just started piling up due to a new work situation and I began not paying attention to my diet or workout program.

I want to get down to 165 at 10% body fat, then bulk up to 190-195 at 10%. Anyway, due to a few unfortunate events (my car being broken into twice in four months in my complex), I've decided to move back home until I finish school. Then I'll find a much better place (hopefully my own house).

I've always told myself that I'm going to start next week, but never did due to my laziness and procrastination. I'm ready to start Monday, Jan. 24th. I really want to see what I can accomplish by July if I stick with my training program. I'm banning all fast food and regular soda except on my free day (which I hope to eventually eliminate). I plan on sticking to just the following drinks: Green Tea, Water, and Caffienated Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi occasionally to help me keep sane. I'm going to follow the BFL program for 30 weeks from now until September 1st.

Starting weight: 253
Starting Bodyfat: Unknown (will take measurements Monday morning)

Ending Weight Goal: 165
Ending Bodyfat Goal: 10%

Time to complete transformation: 30 weeks.
Start Time: January 24th, 2005.
End Time: September 1st, 2005.

I'm here.

I'm 36 years old. I was always on the heavy side, but really got into shape when I was 21. After a major accident and a failed relationship, I peaked at around the 290 mark.

I've absorbed a LOT of what's been written on this site and am ready for another go. Today after cardio I weighed in at 258. Let's do this folks. :tu:

I'm in.. I've been trying to eat healthier and workout since the end of December but I'm stuck, not losing any weight. I think it's a matter of motivation and consistency. I'm working full time and going to classes 3 nights a week. I just need to tell myself on those school nights that it's no excuse not to workout. I'm currently 277lbs and 6'4". My goal for 6/05 is 245lbs. let's do it!!

Well, my first week went relatively well. Sunday my diet sort of crashed with being treated to lunch with a friend. I guess that was my cheat meal of the week!
Anyways, I actually loss 7.5lbs the first week. It boosted my day completely with that knowledge.

Well, now that the waterweight is gone, I'm hoping to drop 3-4 lbs for the next couple weeks.

Well, I've eaten healthier today than I have in the past seven months since I moved out. I only ate out once (even then it was a salad from Wendy's), and my caloric intake has been decreased a little. And, I've had the equivalent of 6 8-ounce glasses of water today. I'll be adding more water and eliminating the diet drinks and regular sodas throughout this week.

Damn, this is HARD...much harder than I thought it would be. It's not eating that's hard -- it's gathering the courage and the willpower to do it consistently. I've done it before, but now it's almost twice as hard to do it again. But, no matter...I want that great-looking body badly enough that I'll do whatever it takes.

After I complete moving this week, I'm going to get my arse back to the gym and plan on following the regular BFL exercise + nutrition program until September 1st, and I'll see where I need to go from there.

It helps tremendously when you cook a weeks worth of food.
That ways you always have healthy food around when you need it. Its pretty damn tiring to cook 6 times a day! If your like most people, your not gonna do it.

Set out a day when you can cook your meats and just stick them in a fridge or freezer. My first week went smoothly mainly because I had the food cooked ahead of time.

Just wanted to check in with you guys and see how everyone is doing this week?

Doing well, I believe. Trying to get used to salad and things of that nature. Tomorrow after cardio is when I'm getting on the scale, as tomorrow is my cheat day.

My biggest hurdle is the cardio. I cycle in the eliptical and stairmaster fives day a week, and my heart will often hover at 140 to 145, and eventually hit 150 at the end of the 40 minutes. I have to figure a way to get that down without the "I'm not working as hard as I can" feeling.

I saw some posts about motivation to get to the gym. When I was younger, I did this, and I'm convinced this works. Rent out a locker at the gym if possible, and leave something you'll absolutely need before you go home in there. I did this with my house keys for a couple of weeks and for me, once you're there, at the very least you're "Guilted" into doing you're workout.

It's a bit extreme, but then, so is this new lifestlye we're all embarking on.

Dude, what kind of beans are you eating?
I wouldn't mind picking some up but not exactly sure which kinds are "healthy".

Anyways, today is going pretty damn good. Yesturday I just straight crashed man. I had cooked some ground turkey earlier in the week. So yesturday I decided to make a turkey burrito (with whole wheat tortilla). Just pretty much mixed in tomato sauce and mexican seasoning with mushrooms, onions and green peppers.
So I made that burrito, and destroyed it. Went back into the kitchen and saw extra stuff there, so I made another one. Just piled on the sauce and meat this time. Even had the nerve to toss a slice of cheese on it. :eat: And on top of that, I only ate 3 times that day, one being a candy bar that a chic gave me during class.
AND ON TOP OF THAT....missed my cardio! The horror!

Well all that means is my Sunday cheat meal is gone now. Today i'm doing much better, much more focused. Eating super clean all day today, meaning extra water and no added salt. Did my cardio today and man did it feel good.

Good idea. I made a promise to myself to buy myself a gym membership when I reach 230. That way I'm fully devoted by then and hopefully I'll have more money then than now! :p

What do you guys think would be a realistic goal date for me to get down from 270 to 230?

Thu, January 27th, 2005, 05:47 PM
NorthernExperiment, this is not expert advice, but experienced advice: if you want to reduce from 270 to 230, give yourself at least a few months to do it. Figure a couple of pounds per week average, over the long run. You can expect to have "blips" or "spikes," both upward and downward, during that time. I know I would be adding risks to my overall health if I tried to reduce faster than that rate. As long as overall health stays good, I figure, any more than 2 pounds lost in any week is just gravy, or, er, "anti-gravy."

I am below 250 now, but started on 1/02/05 at "somewhere" above 250. Probably mid to upper 250s - the scale said 256. My overall goal for now is 240. Then, once there, I'll ponder how much more and how fast after that, for a new goal. I didn't think I'd get to 240 until the end of February. But I'm already knocking on 240's door - I mean, the digits might say "2-3-[something]" before the end of Feb. The fastest loss typically happens early. (I don't mean to insult by saying that, if it's already well-known! ) That's why, once I get to 240, I will probably give myself a couple of months to get to, say, 235.

I wish the best to everyone who's in on this challenge! I can't count myself in because these kinds of challenges just aren't for me. I'm way too much of a free spirit, I already know. Besides I'd be cheating since I am not at 250 already. But I sure can empathize with all you guys! I would like to follow everyone's progress here, post occasionally, and cheerlead. Go git 'em!! -Martin

One slice over half a medium dominoes pizza. It was so good. I had planned on having pizza today as my cheat meal of the week but i hadnt planned on eating that much. :d_eek: Oh well though i still had my mid afternnon meal and will cotinue on with the rest of my meals today. Thanks for the info man.
I think i'll probably be better off setting a goal at 250 before 230. Once I hit my first goal, it'll keep me motivated to continue on. Besides, I'm too impatient to wait several months to hit a goal! :tu:

Yep, I'm hoping to drop 3-4 pounds this week. And then drop to 2lbs a week. By all the reading here, anything extra could end up being muscle. And I sure as hell don't want to be a smaller flab.

Btw, congrats on hitting your recent goal!

Ok, five days into this challenge, I'm now at 254.

Not bad, I've actually already gotten down to the 258 mark from about 290 at the end of last summer. So the four pounds in five days given the new (and better informed) way I'm going about this. I did the weigh in today rather than Sunday as today is my "cheat" day. I'll also weigh in on Sunday, but so far, so good.

If anything, this just gives me more incenitive not to have a cheat day.

I'm still trying to figure out my diet, so to speak. These past five days consisted of a lot of turkey, grilled chicken, salad, etc. I also use Muscle Milk as a MRP, but use ATW Isolate as my PWO, both after cardio in the morning and after the weights at night. its just a way of monitoring what do what to my body and so i know what food to avoid.

OK, Sunday Roll Call. I weighed in at 251, actually down a couple from Friday.

Friday wasn't much of a "cheat day", all of lunch at McDonald's and a couple of slices of pizza, and that was that.

I never was much of an "over eater" if you will, I just really never paid attention to what I ate, and after exercising for about six to seven years straight, then not for about two, it really took a dramatic effect on me I guess. Plus I was down in the dumps for a while, which wasn't helpful. But since about September until now, I've had the consistency I feel I need to make progress. Eleven weeks to go, so we'll see what happens.

Hang in there guys, I did this once already, and I know I can do it again. If I can do it, you all should be shoe-in's.

I dropped under 277.. 276.2. Not great results but after a week at least it's down. I was stuck hovering at between 277-278 for the past 2-3 weeks. I'm going to switch gears and go back to lifting weights and doing little cardio on the side. In the past my body just seems to respond better to weights than cardio so we'll see if it works again this time.

I do my official weigh in tommorow. I doubt if I actually lost anything though. Been doing a lot of experimenting. Did a test weigh in on friday and was up .5! I looked over my diet and noticed I was chewing in a little too much carbs. I also didn't have any cottage cheese this week and not nearly enough water. I now have a better idea of what menu that works for me. Week 3 is going to be a blast.

Well I lost 1lb the past week. And .5lb of water weight since Sunday. Which is a ton better than I expected since my prior week was full of lost focused.

This week started off pretty damn good. Got my portions in check now and well stocked on good clean food.
Today I jogged/ran 2 miles. Which is something i've never did before (my lazy always would stop within minutes beforehand). Its an odd feeling getting that 2nd burst of energy in. It felt great. The past weeks I just did 1 mile and stopped.

Way to go Northern. How great of a feeling is that?

I have to second the cry for more posts. Guys, we're all in this together. We need to celebrate our victories, no matter how small. Did you drink nothing but water one day? Given the urge to cheat, did you only eat some of what you've might have originally? Every day something good will happen for us during this challenge, so I feel we need to share and celebrate our progress, no matter how minute you think it might be. We're all going to win this challenge.

245lbs.

I'll be doing an official weigh in on Sunday.

So far, I have to say I'm pleased after the second week. I'm hopeful to get to about 200-210 at the end of the twelve weeks. So we'll see. :jumping:

those of you who do eat cheat meals how much differance does it make to your weight over the week?

We'll, last week I had a full cheat day, and I still lost a couple from my Friday to my Sunday weigh in's. That was about two cheat meals during that day. I'll let you know Sunday if that still holds true.

Am I the only one cheating today, and not for the Super Bowl Sunday?

I also had a couple cheal meals last week. Prolly 5?MY cheat day is Sunday but I ate bad 3 other meals thru the week so 5 all together. I still lost 3lbs last week.I know I need to clean that up a bit. On the other hand though it isnt anything compared to what I used to eat in a normal week. And in the grand scheme of things I had 42 meals last week. 5 of them were bad. 37 of 42 aint to bad. I think you should have a cheat meal. I dont think it would hurt you to bad.

Official Pre Super Bowl Sunday weigh in:

244lbs

This week I'm probably adding Dextrose to my PWO shake's, and cycling in Lean Mass Matrix as my MRP during the day, while restricting the Muscle Milk to strictly before bed.

I'm probably also going to cut my cheat day down to just a cheat meal. It took my all of a half an hour to get through my WW bagel after cardio this morning. Don't know why, but that was that.

I'm pleased though, gotta say. :tu:

I also wieghed in first thing yesterday morning (Pre- Superbowl) and wieghed in at 274. Thats a 3lb loss for last week. Im feeling pretty good about that.

Who kows how much I wiegh after the Superbowl last night. I ate a ton last night. Sunday is my cheat day anyway but i did it up last night me and my fiance and best friend got a bucket of 50 wings from hooters last night. I think my fiance had 6 or 7. The bucket was gone at the end of the night. My friend ate more than me but not by much. Plus had a ton of oreos and some potaoe chips. For breakfast I had a waffle and some home fries. It was so good. I feel so bloated today. I dont think i'll eat that much on a cheat day again.

As far as this week goes it should be a good one. I am starting MAX-OT today and am going to try to do morning cardio this week. Up until this point I have not been lifting at all and have been doing my cardio prolly 3 nights a week then fasted cardio Saturday and Sunday. I'm looking forward to lifting, its been a while. I did my morning cardio today so I hope I can maintain my positive attitude for the week.

Everybbody seems to be doing a great job so far. If its all possible guys, can we get a little more participation from all of us. I know reading what someone my size is going thru keeps me motivated. Lets do this guys!. Have a great week.

I know I'm a little bit late in posting some results, but I've been incredibly busy since College started! BUT...anyway, I eliminated all sodas and caffiene and drink diet only on occasion to help me keep sane. 8 16-ounce bottles of water a day along with sensible food choices are helping me considerably. I even have much better skin commplexion as well!

I'm down 6 lbs. so far, to 247 from 253. I still have quite a ways to go but I'm working on eating as clean as I can. I'm finally starting a workout program next week after finally getting a hold on my current school schedule and nutrition. The results after the next three months should be interesting.

Looking good man. Keep up the good work! As for myself I had a 3lb loss last week. I was down to 268. Thats 12lbs since the begining of the challenge and 17lbs over all. I started dieting one week before the challenge started. Not doing so good this week so far. I turned my Sunday cheat day into a Saturday night/Sunday Day/ MOnday afternoon cheat day. I have worked out every day but i know i ate a ton of food and hardly any of it was healthy. Oh well! Im going to really hit it hard this week and make sure i keep my diet extra clean. Congrats man, EXCELLENT job :claphigh: :tucool:

Might not be a bad idea to get a measurement taken. I find it to be a good barometer to see that I'm losing fat when the weight comes off, not muscle mass. To me, the actual weight number doesn't necessarily matter, it's all about the BF%

Week seven, still 236lbs. Not bad after a HUGE cheat day though. I may be less though, as I weighed myself towards the end of my day (and after I lifted), as opposed to the beginning, due to my schedule today.

I just started SGX in earnest this past Friday. I'll give a better breakdown of it's effect in the next week, as I go for a weigh in and a body fat measurement.

FIVE WEEKS TO GO EVERYONE, let's kick this challenge IN THE ASS!!!!!

what happened to everyone ???

I know, right?

Week eight is it? I'm still at 236, and my bodyfat checked in at 23.5%. That's down from 26% four weeks ago.

I was on vacation last week, and every day I wound up having a cheat meal, and missed one weight session at the end of the week. I hit the cardio everyday however, and with the SGX program, I folowed it pretty faithfully until the last meal of the day, where I'd be out and about.

Stll pretty happy though. This program kicks ass. The only real tough part of it for me is getting the timing down for everything. This is a GREAT program for me; my energy is up for most of the day, I'm sleeping better, and I feel I"m getting the most from my weight sessions. Good stuff. :flex:
