View Full Version : IRC - The Real Mans' Chat
jk0 Mon, February 16th, 2004, 10:12 PM Hello John,
I was thinking that this place could use an IRC chat! I run an IRC network with a bunch of friends, and I was thinking... we could set up a channel specificly for your website/forums. Even now that you are colo, maybe you would be interested in linking up with us? Beings most of us are techies....
Also Im glad to see you are using Gentoo linux too! I used to be a big FreeBSD guy until Gentoo came out, and Ive been using in on my servers ever since, I love it and hope its working out for you on your new machine!
Let me know what you think!

IRC (AKA "the great waste" ;) ) is another addiction I managed to kick a while ago, so I'm not sure I want to go the direction of linking. Still, I'm considering adding chat functionality to this site - maybe just an easy front-end to IRC for the non-techies - but it's not going to happen for at least a few months because I've got too many irons in the fire right now.
I love Gentoo! Did you see the post (http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/showpost.php?p=7611&postcount=5) I made about it last week? :tu:
jk0 Mon, February 16th, 2004, 10:42 PM Yep that post is what told me you are running Gentoo :)
Yeah I, too, am addicted to IRC (thats probably why Im fat in the first place lol). If/when you do decided to start a little IRC backend let me know, I can provide a little extra bandwidth :)
corbint Tue, February 17th, 2004, 01:14 AM IRC was a massive productivity-killer for me... it was amazing how much more i accomplished once i /quit and then cd /usr/ports/irc/bitchx ; make deinstall
heck of a habit to kick, but the few people i cared to keep in contact with had AIM and now im not tied to a screen session, thank god!
Berran Tue, February 17th, 2004, 02:12 AM I usually just idle on IRC, I can't sit there and chat for hours on end anymore (I get to bored of it after a while), but if someone is interested in chatting on IRC sometime I would be up for it just give me a server/channel. I'm sure I could learn a lot talking to some of you about fitness in real time, and have great discussions about our routines/diets.
jk0 Tue, February 17th, 2004, 02:38 PM Dont let me give you the wrong impression, i just think it would be cool to get up a channel for all of us to idle on and chat in real-time with.
But if any of you are interested, some friends and I run http://www.nullirc.net. Feel free to connect to irc.nullirc.net (#null is our main channel, and of course, my handle is jk0)
