View Full Version : Back Exercises
Blackhorse7 January 12th, 2005, 08:29 PM I am looking for some help. I am doing a general full body weight routine, but all I have is some dumbells. What sorts of exercises can I do to work my back. I do not yet have enough strength to do pull-up (working on it though...)

One DB Pullover... is that where my shoulders are one the side of a bench, and I am keeping my arms straight while raising and lowering the weight in a 90 degree arc?
reanimated838uk January 13th, 2005, 01:57 AM if your thinking of the one where your perpendicular to the bench and you rest your uppoer torso on it, then yep.

Having problem with computer. Try this.
Lie crossways on a low bench. Hold a dumbbell on one end with your palms on the inside handle area of the weight plates. Extend your head slightly off the bench, with the dumbbell over your chest and your elbows straight.
Take a deep breath and lower the dumbbell behind your head and try to touch the floor. Keep your arms as straight as possible. As the dumbbell approaches the floor, drop your buttocks while keeping your feet together and legs relatively straight. You’ll have a nice arch in your middle and lower back and you’ll feel an unusual pull throughout your torso in this bottom stretch. Lift the dumbbell slowly back to the over-chest position.
Practice one deep breath during each of the first 8 repetitions, and two deep breaths — and hold the second one — during repetitions 9-15.
Dead-head January 13th, 2005, 03:13 PM Dead lift, man! The mother of all back exercises.
I was really disappointed not to find it on that exrx.net site.

I don't think there's a better exercise for the back than dead-lift. The supplemental one I do is what I call a "good-morning". I get in the squat rack with a relatively light weight. Setting up as to do a squat, with a slight bend in the knees, I bend forward at the waste until my back is parallel to the floor, then use the back to stand upright again.
reanimated838uk January 13th, 2005, 03:40 PM kinda like this :) http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/GluteusMaximus/BBBentKneeGoodMorning.html
Dead-head January 13th, 2005, 03:59 PM Yeah, I suppose it might be something like that...
