Hey everyone,
I've noticed that most people seem to go for a whey protein suppliment. My question is - why whey?
I was in the supermarket yesterday and trying to decide between 2 protein shakes - one whey, one soy. I ended up with the soy option as it was $9 cheaper (although I was regretting not posting this question sooner so I could have made an educated decision). Anyhow, the stuff I bought is like carob flavoured chalk powder and I'm likely going to throw it out. So can someone give me the rundown on whey seems to be popular?
Many thanks.

Well, whey protien is derived from milk products, which allows it so dissolve in water and have a milky type of consistency. It's flavor is somewhat that of milk on it's raw form, though, it does need flavoring. My wife tried the soy protien when she was on Atkins, and we both learned right away that it's not that great for making much. You have to use it in very specific ways to be able to choke it down. We never really found one of thos ways that we cared for.
If anyone has any ideas on how to use the soy protien, please let us know!

I use Whey Precision Engineered Protoplex. The only reason why I use Whey is because the health shop beside where I live sell it for £21, and I don't want to have to order online.
The Chocolate flavour is nice, but flavour doesn't matter. I do have a problem with mixing though. I add milk then the powder and have to mix it for a very long time and I still get powder lumps which are disgusting. I don't have a blender :(.

From what I have read, Soy Protein boosts Estrogen levels... If you are male I don't think this would be the best choice. I've always gone Whey Protein myself.

ROFLMAO..... :spaz: .......and the difference to now would be what exactly???? :)
Think I might dump this soy stuff and go find me some whey - if for no other reason than it will mean I won't dread having to drink the stuff....

I notice you're in Australia i'd recommend www.myopure.com.au. Their Microfiltered WPI they have is good $38/kg no flavouring though so you'll need to flavour it if you can't stand the bland tasting cardboard drink it makes by itself.
another place to get decent stuff from on line is www.sizematters.com.au

Well, I took the plunge - I got rid of the soy based rubbish I had and got into some whey - Goliath's whey isolate. 1.5kg's cost me $79 Au (more than I wanted to pay initially) and it taste's and mixes HEAPS better. I don't even need to use milk any more - it work's a treat with water. GOLD!!! :) Seems worth the money now - it's just like drinking a normal shake.

Jim,
I've never used that brand before, however I use a shaker kinda like this (http://www.ast-ss.com/products/productpage.asp?prodid=29), and it works like a charm. A few shakes and I'm set.
