View Full Version : Too much cardio?
Oranzith January 5th, 2005, 06:08 PM quick question -
is there a such thing as too much cardio for fat loss ?
here is what i was going to do today
3 PM cardio (45 mins, 65% HR, no food past 5 hours)
4:15 - P/F Meal
5: Weights (30-45 mins)
6: PWO shake
9: 45 mins cardio (fasted again)
would i get better results, in terms of FAT LOSS, if i skipped one of the cardios? i imagine, since your in the fat burning zone while fasted, that i am still burning fat. so why not? with proper meal spacing?

you'd get better results if you stopped starving yourself two times a day. just eat less and eat better, gain muscle, and use cardio mainly as a way to build cardio health.
Oranzith January 5th, 2005, 07:14 PM ive been doing all those things bro. I've lost 20 lbs so far in the past 1.5 months (5 lbs from water).
im curious in general, because if it does benefit more i'd do it.

i don't think it will help more. i might be wrong, but i believe doing that much cardio in a fasted state will cause you to lose muscle. if you're forcing yourself into that fasted state in the first place, you're really gonna be screwing with your metabolism besides. best bet is small, balanced meals throughout the day. do cardio once a day. if you want to do it fasted, do it right when you wake up in the morning. do it for 30 minutes at most. personally, i don't buy the whole fasted cardio thing anyway. in fact i don't even really think cardio is necessary/sufficient for fat loss, i mean how many calories are you gonna kill in one session anyway, 500 in 30 minutes at the most right? you want to be hitting that metabolic rate - one of best ways is to increase muscle. that's why i do cardio pretty much only for endurance/cardiovascular health, not to lose fat. 20 lbs in 1.5 months is good. that's 20 lbs in 7 weeks. it might even be too much. getting in shape is not like liposuction, you can't get rid of it all in one day - that's just unhealthy. a little at a time man, sounds like you're making great progress so far... don't ruin it by starving yourself, you'll just get sick, lose muscle, and get depressed.
marcus January 5th, 2005, 07:24 PM The one 45 minute cardio workout is enough per day to get maximal results. Also, 5 hours without food is too long, especially before a workout. Reduce to 2-3 hours of fasted time before the workout. During the day you should be eating every 3 hours to keep your meatbolism ticking over. :eat:
Oranzith January 5th, 2005, 09:04 PM maybe i wasnt clear enough. 5 hours w/o carbs, 3 hours since fats/protein meal.
and i think 30 mins is far too short for cardio, 45-50 mins i feel is more appropriate. lipolysis only starts 10 mins in, you are not getting the full effect at 30 minutes.
sadly, id do cardio first thing in the morning if i could. im a senior in highschool and have school in the morning.

What time does school start, 8:30, 9:00?
All this week, I've been starting work at 6:30am. I've been getting up at 4:30, I've finished my cardio by 5:30. I have enough time to have a shower and get dressed by 6am. I only need 15 mins to eat some breaky and then I'm at work by 6:30am.
I know its hard, but its always possible to fit it in. It just takes planning.
